The seams of the PS5 and Xbox Series X are starting to crack. Over the past week, two games launched that challenged the status quo for performance on current-gen consoles: A Plague Tale Requiem and Gotham Knights. Unlike nearly all console releases since 2020, both games shipped locked at 30 frames per second (fps) without a performance mode.

Those seem to be cases of bad optimization. When theres barely any difference between the x and s performance, you know its not the hardware. Imo we havent truly seen what PS5 is capable of

Gotham Knights runs terribly on PC, so it's not a fault of the console.

I know less about Plague Tale, but that developer has made the two Plague Tales, MS Flight Simulator, and a bunch of Pixar video game adaptations, so I imagine they're not too great at optimization either.

A Plague Tale also supports a 40fps mode on consoles which is a decent middle ground for people with 120hz displays and VRR.

Also 60fps has never really been the standard for consoles lol. PS5 and XSX have held up better than most.

Its because companies are hamstringing the PS5 so PS4 can still get versions of the games.

Take GoW:R for example, they pretty much made the game for both systems. PS5 getting more visual options and modes.
