I hear people say it got better after that, but I never saw the end of it. I stopped watching as soon as Carl died. That one thing killed every single ounce of investment I still had in the series.

Same not that I liked his character, I just wanted to either see him die or time jump to him being a badass

People who say it gets better are already fans of the show.

Like the other topic on here the other day, the show peaked at season 1. Then it just had too much slow and dragging parts.

I remember I was waiting weeks for each episode only to see that Tara lass (can't remember her name) running around in the woods.

Or Carol and the guy with the stick talking about meaning of life.

Yeah The Whisperers War is also pretty good. Though I think the show fumbled on a couple things like Negan's whole redemption arc. Still, if you watched to season 8 without issue, you'll l ike the Whisperer's.

I also kind of like the Commonwealth stuff. I almost wish the show wasn't ending, because I kind of want to see what they could do with a fresh story, considering they're well into basically a completely different set of characters at this point.

He was the single most important character to the overarching themes and story of the show. There was a comment made in one of the early seasons about how kids that grew up in that world would be especially suitable to surviving in it. That was Carl's whole character. Struggling with the morality and dangers of the new world while still finding time to be a kid and enjoy life. He was the ongoing symbol of mankind gradually adapting to and conquering the zombie apocalypse.

Then he dies in the absolute dumbest conceivable way. A way which runs contrary to every evolution and adaptation we've seen him make over the years. The writers had a way of making characters act in weird ways when they needed something dumb to happen for the plot. Like Carol suddenly coming down with "I don't wanna kill people-itis" during a lot of the Savior stuff.

With Carl gone, I didn't really care about where the story went from there. Our symbol of adaptation randomly died, which made the whole thing seem kinda pointless and cynical.

The Whisperers Arc was good, the stuff afterward has been hit or miss.
