Have you played this game?

I returned to it a few months ago after not playing it for like 10 years. I am very much enjoying myself, and Im constantly discovering new things about the game.

Very little bit when it first came out.

yes, probably too much. not a lot recently though except with nephews. but they're obsessed with servers, pvp, and speedrunning, and getting them to play survival is not easy.

I played it a few times. But the whole "Do what you want and set your own goals" games lose my interests rather quickly. I need to have something to work towards, and Minecraft doesn't really have any meaningful goals to it.

But I can see how it would appeal to other people.

Off and on over the years. It's been a couple years now, but I've had some good times.

This was my experience with it until I started getting into mods. Having tech trees and the like gave it a lot more direction and structure, which did a lot more to hold my attention than the more open-ended sandbox experience of vanilla.

well it does now, but it shouldn't preclude the exploration and survival parts of the game.

nephews always immediately want to do the next goal, without having done anything to establish a foothold in the world first. going to the nether unprepared with kids scampering about like it's not dangerous is a fantastic source of stress.

There are things to do, but the game actually does a pretty terrible job of explaining what they are or how to go about them. I have no idea how you are supposed to figure some of this stuff out if you just picked up the game and started playing it.

Yeah like when I returned to it, its nice that the crafting log is there, but it does have some issues. But there are entire essential mechanics like potion brewing and enchanting that the game does literally nothing to explain to the player how they work. Good luck figuring out potion brewing without a chart.

Or opening a nether portal, crafting eyes of ender or figuring out what eyes of ender actually do once you craft them. The enchantment system is equally bad, since nothing tells you to set up bookcases around the table to increase the level of enchantments. There are a lot of things that experienced players just work around that would baffle a new player. Outside of the crafting log the game essentially has no way of providing information to players.

you basically have to use the wiki. just consider it to be an online manual. I don't think there's any way in heck you could understand the game without the wiki. (it's still hard to grasp why you would do certain things even with the wiki.)

got into it for a few months during the beta. Got bored of it around the time the full game got released.

Nope, looks dumb. You just build stuff. Why would I want to build stuff with terrible graphics when I can play other games where all the stuff is already built for me.

I always play it modded. I find that way more interesting

JEI is great if you're modding. Gives you a list of all recipes for everything. But some mods where they have more complext multiblock structures it doesnt help with. Or some more complex crafting stuff

Briefly. I couldn't get into it.
