why do you need to enter the bitlocker code every time it reboots? it doesn't store that shit in TPM?

i have to do that everytime i get a laptop back from warranty repair, but 99% of the time they just swap the motherboard whenever something is broke. "Camera's broken, time to swap out the mobo."

those recovery codes are so long...

idk anything about computers, all i know is this adds 2 minutes to my log off time at the end of the day and i hate it

Sounds like a knee jerk process IT and/or management created cause too many people never restarted their laptops for updates. That or updates would force restarts while users were working and they bitched about it.

The TPM chip stores the recovery code you type in so you don't have to type it in. Some computers don't have it, but laptops should. Or you can keep it on a USB stick, which is what i used to do.

If others don't have to put in the bitlocker code maybe your laptop is messed up. Submit a help ticket.

Yup. Just like I thought. Many companies will make employees do this but it's not the best way to go about it cause it's a big inconvenience to users. Better way is to have the computer warn the user they have x amount of days to reboot their computer or it'll forcefully restart. Gives the good users a chance to reboot on their terms. The ones that ignore the warning...fuck 'em.
