Ice got a huge buff, hail is replaced with snow and now provides a defense boost to ice types in it, similar to how rocks got a special defense buff under the effect of sandstorm.

And offensively the worst typing is bug iirc

It's great as a offensive typing and on really fast sweepers like weavile. The issue is that most ice types lean towards slow and bulky which just doesn't work.

In my opinion though, grass is the worst. Both as a defensive typing and offensive.

You'd be surprised, people already theory calculated some damage outputs and it's pretty big. But it's most especially notable when stacked with aurora veil.

It at least gets a lot for neutral. Just, stab ones need a dual type to help it out defensively or it isn't usually able to do much.

I like how Karate Chop was a normal move in gen 1. And their best move was Submission, which was like 80 power and did recoil

I think Gen 1 Fighting was balanced with single player in mind. You fight a ton of Rattatas and Raticates throughout the game. Plus there's Chansey, Lax, and Tauros.

Is snow different in other ways? Does it still do damage each turn? I like the idea of ice being more durable in it, but why did it need renaming to something less intimidating?
