I feel like it's kind of implied in Infinity Wars that they might have been able to since they almost did while being split up, but Iron Man's crew fought him before he had the Time/Soul Stones.

By the Avengers I mean the expanded Avengers at that time including Thor with the Stormbreaker, Hulk actually being present, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Dr. Strange, Winter Soldier, and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

If Thanos couldn't be beat even with Infinity Stones, he probably wouldn't need them in the first place.

In the comics just merely possessing all of the stones at once confers incredible cosmic powers. In the MCU the incredible cosmic powers have to be intentionally used.
