I read a summary of its plot and it's dogshit. Time travel, evil Cedric Diggory, Voldemort's secret daughter? Come on.

*Final Fantasy X spoilers*

X-3 or whatever the audio book thing was. Tidus is a dream of the Fayth, and willingly goes along with the plan and sacrifices his own existence to save Spira, an emotional twist that defines the game, very nice. Then in X-2 he is dreamt back into existence, which is fine I guess, kinda corny but all in all a good ending. Then in the audiobook he... dies. He kicks an exploding blitzball bomb and fucking dies. And then comes back because he's on some twilight zone part of Spira... but he can't know, or he'll vanish again. X-2 was a stretch, but this is just giving another stupid layer of unnecesary complexity to how he's even alive and real. Just say the Fayth were actively summoning just him so he could be with Yuna, but they're running out of juice or something.

Yuna breaks up with Tidus because she's jealous of his friend Marphie, and she tells him she's in love with someone else. At the end, she tells a crowd at Luca stadium that she will defeat Sin once more

Nah, the real kicker is planet-destroying weapons that can now fit on regular capital ships.

You could easily make an argument that any future enemy wouldnt feel like making a planet destroyer, as theyre too cost-prohibitive and losing one is a disaster. Now that they can go on any Star destroyers, though? How do you seriously walk back that?

Metal gear solid 4 is the absolute worst about that. From beginning to end its just unsatisfying attempts to tie up dropped plot lines way too fast

Dead Rising 4.

Frank is now a meme drone. He has more or less morphed into the GTA5 guy.
His quotes show up wherever they can.
Frank has found himself another Brad. Odd.
Big robot costumes everywhere. Capcom cosplays everywhere. Because this is a game about mindlessly killing zombies right?
Dr Barnaby was secretly a wacky mad scientist.
The coat friends are back and they're lame now.
They built a new Willamette Parkview Mall and there's a zombie outbreak there again. Really.
Couldn't think of a villain. Here's an evil talking zombie in power armor. (Lesser thing but the strange trend of all the protags and final bosses' names ending in K ends here)
Frank dies at the end, buy the DLC that tells you he actually didn't to see what that's about.
Frank turns into a special super L4D hunter zombie that can talk and then cures himself.
The game takes the thing Dead Rising 2 started where it decides to force jokes in and tell you when to laugh and ramps it up to the max.

But that's Capcom for you.

What do you mean? Literally everything to have ever happened in Warcraft's history being the totally meant to do it scheming of a brand new character never even hinted at before makes perfect sense!

For real... the changes in Legion and a bit before of Sargeras not having gone insane but rather decided destroying all the world stones to keep them from being corrupted WAS new/never hinted but still felt like it fit into the actions and motivations or most of the characters (especially as WC3 had the Old Gods tidbit).

The bigger offender that felt like bad fan fic was changing Lothar's death from being murdered during a peace treaty parlay to dying in an honorable duel w/ Blackhand to make the old Horde look 'better'

Mgs4 is a great example actually I remember distinctly getting frustrated at the Vamp reveal ironically the nano machine explanation ruined the mystery and story of the franchise especially in regards to this character

All Star Wars feels like bad fanfic, and that is saying something considering that all of the novel sequels felt like bad fanfic but look much better now in retrospect.

The new takes on He-Man are all pretty awful. They take a generic cartoon with bare-bones names like Man-At-Arms, Ram-Man or "Evil"Lynn and try to make a super-serious drama story with them.

The reason Lothar is my biggest offender is that the "bad fanfic" happened because of intentional efforts to satisfy fans (or the belief of what the fans wanted. Metzen/Blizzard wanted the Horde to be 'less evil' from WC3 forward (which was fine) and thus the Thrall Horde was/tried to be more 'honorable'. But to garner even more sympathy they changed the backstory of their dead hero to make HIM more "honorable".

Ducktales was pretty decent though, mostly on the back of David Tennant.

The one 80's show reboot / modern series that seems to have gotten it right was Danger Mouse.

If you want to go back to 60s shows, the Thunderbirds reboot isn't too bad.

That is pretty much the only one in this entire thread that makes perfect fucking sense.

A lot of Star Wars EU stuff, old and new, is pretty bad in this regard, but I find the Yuuzhan Vong to be some the worst of the old. It sounds like something an edgy teen would make up.

Star Wars was destined to be victimized by power creep from the very first movie. How in the world can you possibly top a moon-sized planet-killer? I'd like to say that Star Destroyer-mounted planet killers are the final nail in the coffin, but who's to say that episode 12 won't introduce Stormtroopers with handheld Death Star rays?

This might be it for me. It's bad for so many reasons. I'm struggling to remember anything else that comes close.

Basically 75% of the Star Wars books from the 80s through the 2010s. There's so much trash in there it's hard to list it all, but I'll say that the Vong and the Ysalamiri are the two worst things.

I kinda liked it. Doom 2016 is the one that felt bad to me until I played eternal and it gave some explanations. I always liked doom guy as just a bad ass soldier that won't go down. 2016 made him seem super human with out much explanation which made me think it was a different doomguy altogether. Eternal showed it wasn't and explained his newfound superhuman strength and whatnot. I still prefer him to be a regular human but I'm happy we got an explanation.

The retcon in Halloween: Resurrection where whoops, Michael had actually switched clothes with the ambulance driver and it was that guy that Laurie killed. Absolute horseshit.
