I just went down my list of Steam games and for one reason or another, failed to trick myself into wanting to play any of them.
Then I scrolled the store page for a while, tried a few categories, searched some franchises. Nothing. Tried a store the other day, nope. Asked some people I know, nothing new.
We used to have rentals and companies would try to release finished games so this used to be easier.
I get this issue a lot but right now it's annoying enough for me to post. I could go on and on and on but I figured it'd be better to keep the post concise.

Try playing Steins;Gate.

I sometimes try looking for indie rpgs and occasionally find some that I really like a lot. It's how I found Dark Blood Chronicles, Vampires Dawn 3 and AraFell.

Best to watch some previews, and see if it seems interesting. That's what I do, these days. They often have a 5 or 10 minute demonstration of the gameplay.

Order some Pizzahut and get some demo disks

Theres this one game where youre a purple dragon that's pretty dope. Then theres some weird auto mechanic game where you're supposed to sneak around, idk seemed dumb. It did have some dope ass audio where the characters actually speak

Is Steins Gate not one of those games where it's more like reading a story? The sort someone would edit into a movie and post on Youtube?

I'm very sceptical of curated videos. Even if I like what I see I get crazy with questions.
Does it stay good like this? How's the replay value? How long can I make a single run through? Do I get many customisation options to keep things fresh? Difficulty? Enemy design good overall? Is it a game that's easy to make fun of/ laugh with? Unlockables? Shady practices by the dev?
And even worse if you ask those on the video where everyone's excited for the game, there's a real chance you'll be lied to.

Yeah Steins Gate is a visual novel. I bought it at full price because I'm strange but it's interesting enough. I remember liking 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim more than I expected and sometimes I just want to do "something" but not in the mood to play a game.

I don't sleep well either so all the time traveling and lack of sleep by characters in the game extra messes with my head too. I think I'll try and lay down in fifteen minutes but just knocking some more of that out I guess and responding here for some reason.

I, rarely, buy games on release. So, for me -- it's just as simple as looking on a couple of forums and seeing all the detractors in big bold topics of "Wish, I'd never bought this game", etc... and you can usually tell the real complaints from the minor and trolling ones.

The questions you have about the game, seem like to get a definitive answer to, would spoil the game somewhat, to me....

I haven't bought a game in a while and I'd like to say I don't buy games on release either, but the last one I bought was a shameful exception to that.
It is precarious trying to get a read on a game, spoilers happen. I'd been making it a point to prioritise games that are more interested in being a video game than telling a story so being spoiled would do less damage to the game overall. The last game I really liked does have me second guessing that a bit though, a lot of its charm came from seeing the characters soldiering on through ugly circumstances. Even if they're not the best or most OP characters it really makes you want to do well with them despite that.

The closest I can get to understanding the appeal is having played Blazblue. Its storyline was large back to back conversations, lore dumps and joke endings as rewards for deliberately making bad decisions with battles sparsely thrown in. It was a fighting game though so the 2 player modes carried it. Without the gameplay parts I don't know how you'd go back to something like that.

Wish I could help ya, but I'm struggling to find the motivation to play a game I've been waiting on to come out for literal years, so I'm in a very similar boat.

I sure do! And it's still the best thing game rentals have ever done for me.
Every now and the I get the maybe I just don't like video games any more vibes and give them the Viewtiful Joe 1 test, where that theory gets Redhot kicked out the window.

Well at least you've found something. With my Steam library it's less about trying to start something I haven't before and more coming up with a way to revitalise something I've already played.

I don't own the game but I'm sort of like that with Bloodstained. I loved SOTN, I heard the announcement and got really excited, followed it for a while, was liking the designs and the music, I wasn't as harsh on the gameplay as some were early on. Then for some reason my interest rapidly deteriorated and now even though I just don't feel drawn to it.
