Because it's hypocritically considered socially acceptable to do so. I'm not a Christian or religious at all, but it really irks me that Christianity is so commonly attacked and denigrated while other mainstream religions are often fervently defended by the same people attacking Christianity.

Didnt Christianity spread due to war and conquest? Ie North america, central america, and south america all had their own religion until the white man showed up

Also, like others have said, I think it's the extremists that people don't like, not the entire group, but that also goes for every type of extremist whose entire personality is based on their desired in-group: sports fanatics, atheist as a personality, Disney adults, hero worship, political partisanship, etc.
