once that reveal happened, i turned off the game and haven't touched it since.

It was bad.

There's a certain popular series that basically has the exact same twist that people seem to like for some fucking reason

It made sense though. Even moreso after I played the first two.

It's a good game and a good twist

I never got the hate for it.

Wasn't that bad, the endgame was fun enough to justify the reveal seemingly coming out of nowhere...but upon further inspection it does make sense

SO5 was pretty fun for the chaotic 7 man battles and combo attacks. +Fiore

And Anamnesis was one of the only mobile games i could stand. Great graphics and battle system. Tons of series favorite characters and a good multi player. It was also super generous to F2P people

Its only sin was it wasnt one of those low effort idle battlers were paper cut outs jiggle and mindlessly attack while you leave your phone running. It probably cost too much to maintain so they canned it. It was genuinely good

The twist is cool in theory and makes for an interesting scifi concept. The problem with it in SO3 is that it happened too late in SO3's story and wasn't as developed as it could have been, or it didn't do much with the idea.

I was like 13 and just got done playing through the ps2 .hack series so I was just like "oh ok cool".

I remember it made me feel like I ate yarn.

I've literally never gotten the weirdly disproportionate hate. On the one hand, the game barely did anything with the twist that was of note, I thought they would do more with the concept but it was just there and silly.

But the overblown hate made no sense. This was a series with a meager 2 games before 3 came out, 1 game only if you consider the fact that the west never got SO 1 so Star Ocean 2 would have been the only game they got to play.

So it's not like there was a whole bunch of lore to "ruin" or anything like that.

I played the 2 ports of 1 and 2 on psp before I played 3 on the ps2 and I was completely indifferent to the twist, it was the other problems with the game (and series) that I had but overall they were an ok trilogy of action rpgs.
