theres plenty of good, cheap imitations on amazon. why would anyone bother spending $20-30ish on real Apple chargers?

Apple is mostly just a cult.

Certain 3rd part chargers can mess up your phones charging port or charge chip on the board.
They also won't always have the proper charging speed, so you could be slow charging for $10 or super charging for $30

This goes for any charger tbh

Its not just Apple in my case, I have a tendency to avoid any cheap Chinese knockoff since they have a tendency to catch fire or explode

Not a apple user, but my phone's charger is more consistent and supplies more power probably 3x faster than knock offs

Depends on the brand. I will never buy a cheap charger, cause those will be shoddily made pieces of garbage, but apple prices are just stupid.

I have one for my work phone and it doesn't charge it, just keeps it at the same % until I either use a real one or unplug it and it starts draining again.

Those Amazon brand ones are trash. They have to be perfectly still in order to charge and only work on one side.

I only use the third party charging cables and they last as long or longer than the Apple ones, and otherwise don't give me any trouble.

For the charger itself, I just use the USB port in my car or a third party wireless pad I keep at home.
