Colorism has been a touchy subject in recent years in Mexico. More because darker skinned Mexicans are finally speaking up about it. Most white Mexicans in Mexico are of the upper class. It's still hard for darker skinned Mexicans to break out in prominent roles. Most actors in Mexico are either lighter skinned or white, and also in most recent years come from well off families.

There are Mexicans for example who are 100% white. They're of European ancestry and have no indigenous ancestry like most Mexicans.

It's a common misconception to think you have to have 0 indigenous ancestry to be white.

This is an entirely different argument from the one the TC was aiming for with the bait:
While most American audiences see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as a win for Black and Latino communities with the introduction of underwater king Namor played by Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta Meja the reaction in Mexico has been much bumpier. Last month, newscasters for Mexicos ADN40 channel complained that the movies focus on darker-skinned Latino actors is a form of discrimination against white Latinos.

The only thing they achieve is to separate people more, said host Vaitiare Mateos in Spanish. The people in a production must be selected for their talent and not for their skin color.

For centuries, colorism, or the discrimination against those with darker skin tones within the same group, has haunted Latino communities across the Americas. The echoes of the Spanish caste system still impact everything from health outcomes to job opportunities. That violent history is something that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever tries to address; the characters portrayed by Latinos are intended to be Mesoamerican and thats key to the story, which grapples with the horrors of colonialism.

This is dumb, one of my friends who is Mexican (I live in LA, so I have a lot) says that plenty of television shows in Mexico hugely favor light skins, especially women in those telenovelas. When people ask for diversity, they're asking for are people who are less likely to be represented in media.

Plus the Talokan's are based off from the Aztecs and Mayans, who are dark skinned anyways so it makes sense.

The Talokan tribe in Black Panther aren't even Latino, and they definitely weren't white, so what's the problem?
