well you see, unlike Ukraine (or Taiwan), Japan has a mutual defense treaty with the United States

They're having a hard enough time trying to justify a war in Ukraine.

I think a small military incursion would make sense, because then Japan's public would warm to remiltiarization, which would weaken the US's grip on Japan in the long run.

It's kind of far fetched but destabilizing the security framework in Northeast Asia would generally mean a headache for the US and China, which Russia then can use to their benefit.

But even if that were the cause it's so outlandish it's bordering on sheer dumb luck to work.

That's too stupid to be believable.

Yes it is accurate that Japan did all those horrible things to prisoners in WW2 but it's nowhere close to enough reason to invade Japan and start WW3 just for revenge. At least with Ukraine, the land is incredibly valuable in agriculture and natural resources, not to mention critical as a buffer from NATO access, along with previous membership of the Soviet Union. Japan offers no resources other than another platform for military bases against the US, but they already have allies in China and North Korea which already handle that military deterrent. I think this is false.
