I'M BACK, CARNIVORES

I want you to think about this this Thanksgiving. 46 million turkeys died for today. That's more turkeys than there are people in the whole of California. And for what? For a bunch of ungrateful Americans to go around and stuff themselves with the meat of innocent birds that did nothing more than just exist in factory farms. People call this a tradition. It sickens me. You people could be having tofurkeys or simply veggies or even Beyond Meat but no, you people are okay with the murder and cooking of innocent animals. I'm disgusted.

I just hope you people can redeem yourselves next year by going meatless next Thanksgiving.

I'm not a carnivore, I'm an omnivore

No one ever talks about the vegetables that are sacrificed ~

Plants don't have the same feelings as animals, nor are they necessarily killed when they are picked and eaten. Nice try though.

Yeah, I'm with Crescent here. Think about the feelings of all the innocent soybeans that sacrificed themselves for you, because I'm sure you haven't.

An unfortunate part of being an animal is that we are required to eat other organisms to survive. But the goal should be to reduce suffering to life. I respect each soybean that has given its existence to sustain me. But by eating them instead of meat, I'm not only saving animal lives, but the extra plants those animals would have eaten.

And yet you're apparently okay with plants being killed and used as feed for farm animals so those animals can be killed to go on your plate.

I'm confused. By those standards, by eating a pig, I've saved all the plants that pig would've eaten. You're still murdering the plants by "saving" them!

By eating a pig, you're paying for the farmer to raise and slaughter more. Pigs wouldn't be raised and fattened like they are if not for these for profit farms, and we would save the plants. The plants could be eaten by humans and other apex predators.

You are not obligated to be an omnivore. A vegan diet is possible. Even become a vegetarian. That will also save many lives.

tbh... I'd think 1/8th of a pig is actually what saves more lives, seeing as a single salad involves killing a few dozen plants. So one life feeds eight people, instead of thirty feeding just one.

Biologically speaking, plants have much more highly developed nervous systems than animals do, which means they feel more than we do. They just don't have a mouth to scream or express their pain. I'm sure you've heard of vegetarians that won't eat anything that "has a face." I'm the opposite. I won't eat anything that is trapped in the ground, at the direct mercy of whatever comes its way. Plants are, by their natural design, destined to be victimized by animals and I won't take part in that. And don't bring up the food chain -- it doesn't matter. What matters is that I'm not ripping a vegetable out of the ground just so I can have lettuce on my salad that's like 90% water by content anyway.

It's true, industrial farming of animals is generally cruel. Bad for the environment too. But it's unlikely that enough people are interested in changing their diets to make vegetarianism or veganism anything more than symbolic.
