Sadly, shitty stalls were not always the case. I used to go to meetings at a run down semi-abandoned department store that went out of business back in the 1930s. It looked like a time warp in there. Their public bathroom had doors that went to the floor along with an occupied sign that would spring up when you locked the stall. I told my great grandmother about it and she said that it used to be the norm.

The store was demolished 20 years ago, probably to erase the evidence.
