Why would you pick grass

Grass types are usually strong early game, with access to paralysis and sleep that fire and water might not get at all or until much later

I do wish they would beef up grass a bit. There arent many heavy hitters

I liked the look of Bulbasaur so I stuck with grass out of habit

Grass is usually the easy-mode choice since a lot of early gyms are Rock- and Water-type.

Counterpoint - flying, bug, and poison are all extremely common types among route trainers, making grass a pretty rough type to play with, even if they cant hit you for SE (lol gen 1 pidgey) they resist your main attacks

Even in RB, sure you'll massacre Brock with vine whip, but then 5 minutes later you're dealing with Nidoran, Ekans, and Spearow >_>

I liked Leech Seed back in gen 2.

They always sucked. They become useless after the first 3 gyms in gen 1. Its also the worst typing for gen 2 since they get countered by about 5 gyms.

Grass is ass.

Grass is good for Water, but Electric does that better.

Grass is also good against Rock and Ground, but then again, so is Water.

Also, almost half the types resist it.

Grass types are the malboros of the pokemon world. Just annoy all your opponents to death.

Don't all of those starters have SE stab against all the starters?

The Water one has super effective STABs for both of the other starters as well, but the Fire starter is only super effective against the Grass one.
