Is that the best way to play the original RE 2 and 3? The Sourcenext PC version with the Rebirth and Seamless HD mods? Same with Dino Crisis 1 and eventually 2, right? Except those dont have the seamless HD. Any experts wanna fill me in

Well I just started RE2 and it seems pretty good. Has some extra options like being able to force a reload by holding Aim button and pressing Map button.

Are you using the Seamless HD mod on top of it? I heard that because the upscaling happens in real time, the PC requirements are really demanding

no, just the standard graphics sorry. I will say though that it has higher resolution 3D models than the PS1 version, however.

OK so it seems there's a Page Down button but there doesn't seem to be an option to bind the Page Up button (usually L and R) which is kind of annoying.

RE2 Sourcenext is certainly the most feature-complete, and it comes with mod support (play Kendo's Cut) too. While I appreciate the effort of the Seamless HD project, I think it detracts from the already-fantastic aesthetic of the game.

Don't try Rebirth mode unless you're playing on an actual DS.

Starting Deadly Silence now. The only resident evil game Ive played before was the HD remaster of REmake.

I just realized that as I play through this, and then later RE 2 and 3, Im not going to need to worry about crimson heads. Lol. Awesome.

I only played the REmake the one time, but I swear you get the mansion keys earlier. In the regular one, I just got the armor key by killing the plant in the fountain, but it required going all across the first floor of the mansion. Maybe Im misremembering but in REmake you get the first key much earlier

If you're playing as Jill, the Sword Key does not exist and all Sword Key doors open with the lockpick. The Armor Key in REmake is obtained by getting the Dog Whistle from the study on 2F of the east wing, using it in the terrace on 2F of the west wing, killing the dog, taking its collar, and swapping out the fake Armor Key with the real one. REmake adds a LOT of meat on top of the original.

yeah it definitely does. Some of the puzzles are much simpler too. I just collected the 4 crests and am able to ext the mansion from the back. Many parts of the mansion are edited too. In REmake, the room where Kenneth connect connects to a staircase iirc that lets you connect it to the upper left wing. In this one, the room is a dead end and you have to take the long way around. Some similar examples of that on the right ring.

also I just fought Yawn, after the fight Jill faints and a mysterious man (probably Chris or Barry) retrieves her and takes her to a safe room. That whole sequence doesnt happen in REmake, does it? I didnt play it super long ago, but its not something I remember

Just got back to the mansion, didnt wanna bother with the f***ing algebra that is the V Jolt Plant 42 puzzle, so I killed it the old fashioned way. The shark section was SOOOOOOOO much more tense in REmake lmao here it was only like 1 screen and easily resolved.

Also I got hit by a Hunter and didnt die. In REmake theyre an instant kill, arent they?

Hunters in REmake can do a lot of damage to you with regular attacks, but they have to charge up to do their instakill.

Dude is it weird that I think the original might be better than REmake in some ways?

Cutting out some Lisa Trevor and the underground section with Barry makes everything flow a lot better imo. In the underground lab now. Both versions are worth playing and replaying. REmake obviously has substantially more content tho

It's definitely a more concise and tight experience, even if there is quantifiably more to do in REmake. I think REmake is better, but I can absolutely understand someone preferring 1.

Finished the game. Barry died and I didnt fight Tyrant at the helipad? I didnt even know that was possible. What did I do wrong? When I played REmake, both Barry and Chris were saved, and I blew up Tyrant with the rocket launcher. I dont think I did anything different

I both RE1 and REmake, if your designated partner is dead, Tyrant phase 2 simply does not happen. What probably happened is that you didn't wait for Barry to get another rope, which ends up killing him. He'll also die in the caves if you don't go with him or do go with him, but let him go first.

yeah I figured it out. I think they changed that in REmake cuz I didnt even know waiting for the rope was even an option

You've got to admit, Barry dying because you didn't wait for him to get another rope is pretty hilarious
