What it is now is just dogshit

It's low, but it's getting there. Got a few last bits of present shopping to get done, which I'll get sorted by the weekend, then decorating the house on Sunday, then once I know everything is bought, the tree is up etc. then I'll be feeling it.

Cool, I feel like the first days of december are best for putting up decorations and tree, that's how my family always did it, and then left it until the end of January lol

When I was a kid we never put stuff up until the 15th, but my missus' family always had it up before the end of November, so early December is our compromise (not that I mind - I love having all the lights up).

We normally take it down the first few days of January, because of the old wives' tale of it being bad luck to have it up after the 6th, haha.

Waiting for the inevitable Ashens Advent calender videos to begin now that's it's only 24 days until Christmas. What stresses me out is that's it's only 389 days until next Christmas and I haven't started shopping.

@Smackems
There are quite a few of them. I buy bagged coffee for home. Takes about a week and a half to get through a bag, so I bought a few back in mid November:

Starbucks Holiday Blend
Starbucks Gingerbread
Peet's Holiday Blend
Caribou Reindeer Blend

Other than the Gingerbread, these are not flavored. Just special blends meant to be more spicy or cheery or something.

These tend to see out, which is why I bought a bunch in November

Very little. My city hasnt put out many decorations and the vibe is not cheerful like it used to be. People are stressed out over the organized price gouging that our media refers to as normal inflation. Between the hiked up rent prices, hiked up grocery prices, and other things, nobody seems to be very happy to have to go out and be forced by societal norms and expectations to spend what little money the landlord allowed them to keep on trinkets.

Personally, Im trying my best to enjoy it, but when most of the town is sour, its not very fun.

I think theyve got it locked behind some paywall or another this year. I think Stars and HBO max bought exclusive rights to it this year, so its going to be tough to watch. I managed to see the first one the other night, but they took it off Free to Watch almost instantly.

Last year, they locked Elf behind a paywall and did the same thing. I didnt get to see it the entire year because of monetized streaming services being allowed to buy exclusive rights to a Christmas movie at Christmas time. I managed to record Elf on TBS this time, though.

What do Christmas trees, Santa Claus, lights and presents have to do with religion? It has been secularized. It's not weird at all at this point.

It's all a mix of old pagan and Roman stuff that the early christians co-opted anyway.

i guess the fact that it's been secularized is what i find weird and i totally understand why some Christians are annoyed by it. this is supposed to be the most sacred of Christian holidays and we took it over because we like to buy stuff.

I think weird is the wrong word. Maybe it is sacrilegious to some, but I really don't care what extreme Christians think anyway.

But it isn't buying stuff for most people I know. It is a vibe with all the decorations and songs and movies and stuff.
