We're not that bad. In 2021, U.S. was ranked #16 from the top 20 happiest countries
https://worldhappiness.report/ed/2022/happiness-benevolence-and-trust-during-covid-19-and-beyond/#ranking-of-happiness-2019-2021

People focus way too much on the negatives from what they see on TV. But let's be real, if you live in the U.S., you automatically have it good and live better than the majority of the world, as well has have a lot of opportunity.

Every country has their own problems. Political unrest, radicals, theft, violence, etc. Gun violence is a problem and needs to be reformed, but not nearly as bad as the media makes it to be. People are fairly friendly and helpful here if you're a tourist. Our countries haven't ranked nearly as much from recession as European countries.

Our education system and healthcare can be a lot better, and our forced two party political system sucks balls. It's also quite expensive to live in the cities, especially in California/NY, etc (but where isn't it?).. but I think j have if fairly good. I don't have my own house yet, but I have it pretty good.

Let me clarify... Gun violence needs to be addressed for sure. Mass shootings are on the rise. They're tragedies. I'm just saying it's not like the wild west that non Americans might see based on the media.

But knowing that the founding fathers were infallible, is that what they intended? Knowing that they knew what weapons we would have 200 years later, did they intend for us to have any sort of controls? It's pretty obvious from the fact that he 2nd amendment only says "the right to bear arms may not be infringed" and nothing else

The criteria for that list for the most part are completely unknown, so I don't think it means very much at all. On top of likely being outdated by now.

As for the the worst? It probabaly very, but I don't think this place is as bad as most think.

I believe it.
We're raised to think we're special, then we grow up and realize we're not. It's exacerbated by all the celebrities and rampant social media use, with friends, acquaintances, and family constantly trying to outdo each other and have the best life to conform with that "special" mindset.

I personally think the biggest issue is that no one has any drive, and everyone's quick to play the victim. In other countries, more of the population actively takes up learning multiple languages for either their career or recreational purposes. It's not nearly as common as in the USA.

"I want to write a book and get it published." but they never bother working to get any credentials like entering and winning short story contests. It's just submit manuscript, get rejected, and falsely blame it all on luck instead of manipulating the odds in your favor.
"None of my art gets me followers on social media." Then you see their social media and realize they draw MAYBE 1 thing ever 2-3 weeks, possibly ever 1-2 months, while the top artists started off drawing practically daily to keep, maintain and grow their following. But oh no, it's not their lazy ass's fault. It's never their fault.

Living in other countries, it blows my mind how much more drive their average citizens have for self improvement or to accomplish their dreams.
It's even worse because, with the USA being the USA, there are so many opportunities that you can find with just a little google searching, but almost no one takes advantage of it because they're lazy. Like how the states sit on thousands upon thousands of unused scholarship money each year because no one bothers to apply or put in the work to go beyond just filling out the easy FAFSA.

TL;DR: USA = "The land of the free, home of the people who want shit for free." Raised to believe we're superstars, but don't wanna put in the work to get there.

Nah, the issue as I see it (as a non American) is that American society abjectly refuses to look out for one another. It's all about the self and fuck everyone else, and especially fuck anyone that wants to help others.

Most of the rest of the western world understands that society is better when we help each other. And that helps those who suffer, falter or whatever it might be.

Obviously not every American is like this, and the rest of the world isn't all altruistic. But it is a massive flaw "in America" regardless.

You aren't special, no matter what the American dream tries to sell you, and many will do all they can to stop the American dream becoming a reality.

As an American, this is all 100% accurate.

The U.S. is highly individualistic to a fault, to the point where even getting people to wear masks to limit the spread of a highly contagious virus is like pulling teeth.

Omg seriously. We couldn't even get people to distance themselves either. Like how hard is it to stand back a few feet. Went to the aquarium when it was open they had a mask and social distancing policy but as soon as people got in they took of their masks. I just wanted to see some sharks and I had like 4 people extremely close coughing with no masks. They looked so offended when I cussed every single one of them out

There is truth in this but look at it from another perspective. Americans are overwhelmed by personal failure such as not enough money as an end result of being special.
