Finally got around to watching this. Only got to the big orgy scene. There's virtually no plot up until that point, no character arcs. Cruise is a charisma vacuum. It's just stuff happening and a lot of rambling dialogue. Then the orgy itself is super cheesy and comes out of nowhere from the non-plot. Read the rest of the plot synopsis and apparently nothing fucking happens for the rest of the movie. Why did this need to be over two and a half hours long?

I like Kubrick as much as the next guy but this was such a waste. It's well made enough but not particularly artful. Cruise was badly miscast. Not what you expect from someone that spit out nothing but classics for thirty years.

There's a whole vibe. Basically, I could watch Tom Cruise walk around New York at night all day long. The conspiracy theory stuff is just fluff for the vibe part of the movie.

Seen it 2 or 3x. I'm still not sure if it was a dream or just a weird experience. I like Kubrick too, but this didn't do it for me. I only saw it because he made it. Can't stand Tom Cruise, personally.

It's one of my favorite Kubrick films, perhaps second behind 2001. It's not particularly gripping, but as someone who's struggled with monogamy and has felt the compulsion to seek out "taboo" sex, I found it surprisingly relatable.
