FFXIV sub ran out and i kinda want to take a break from that game

It's fresh into a new expansion, and so far it has been a pretty good one. I will say yes, it's a good time to try it again.

Starting at Legion the game changed in a significant way. It would be a pretty wild thing to return to if you are just used to mop. You could still have a lot of fun but the scale of things and imposition of systems will likely be daunting over time lessening your desire to continue playing.

I would say do it if you enjoy PVE or PVP endgame stuff. The last few expansions have been marred by copious amounts of chores required to maintain the power level needed to do those things, though. Fortunately, for the first time in a long time they're seemingly lifting those chore requirements. Talents are more the way they were before MoP, too, so it actually might not be that big a shock.

If you just like questing or story or whatever, that stuff is extremely unfun imo. I wouldn't really be the person to ask about it. To me, launch is the worst. It means grinding quests for the first time in 2 years and it bores me to tears. So glad I'm level capped and completed all the sidequests for Loremaster, lol.

Hunter and Warlock are both pretty easy to level because of their pets. Nothing is "hard" but some things are a little more dangerous. Rogues and warriors can be a little more squishy at lower levels without gear, but they grow up nice.

New expansion always looks ok but its only when endgame is more prevalent that you really know. Im waiting.

rotations are at max level. they trickle it to you. keep in mind the grind is braindead compared to max level shit. max level shit is literally the most complex boss patterns and stuff.

right now i just pop corruption and spam dark missile or whatever, throwing in my random demon summons as i have the shards for them

You'll get demon bolt soon, which has extra functionality for shard generation. Demonology in particular has a lot of short cooldowns for building up burst windows as you level. It's leaning toward being one of the more complicated specs at max level.

Feels that way. Tried destro and demo on my horde lock and like... wtf is all this shit. This is all dumb. Where are my insta dots! Then went back to affliction on my alliance toon.

Also, dragonriding if fun as fuck once you get all the glyphs.

Destruction is pretty brain dead. Not nearly as many cooldowns or timers to think about. Way bigger single hits than demonology, too.

Can respec at any time for no cost and with no consequences. Just open your talent window and click the specializations tab at the bottom.

i'm lost in this troll kingdom place. also all my load screens say Battle for Azeroth on them now?

The game now by default guides new characters to Battle For Azeroth zones. But there is something called Chromie Time that let's you level in the old expansions. But you have to have a level 60 character i think on your account first, before new characters can use it.

the default 10-60 leveling expansion for new players is BfA. Once you have reached max level with a single toon, alts can talk to Chromie in Org or Stormwind to choose any other expansion to level in. The new content for Dragonflight begins at lvl 60.

ah, gotcha.

there's a quest marker on my map but i can't figure out how to get to it.
