Which

Ignoring all graphical improvements and extra features, pick whichever game is better from a raw gameplay perspective

SV > every other Pokemon game > RB

Red/Blue is an absolute slog to play these days

Wow that's....a much harder question than I expected
Surely, SV is mechanically better than RB in every way...but...

The sense of progression in RB is better. When you reach a new town, it actually feels like a milestone. You have NPCs to talk with. And you actually need to beat trainers to progress. Sometimes you will need to return to the previous town to heal and come back.
Routes are better designed, picking up items actually feels meaningful.
Locations are more varied, with forests, caves, power plant. There are puzzles and sometimes you need to solve them to get access to legendaries
Going through a maze-like dungeon awards you with the ultimate legendary

All of those things are missing in SV and I miss them plenty
They are much too different to compare so it's such a hard question

I was excited upon seeing the topic title, but sadly I cannot vote.

Honestly Red and Blue aged like garbage. I still have a lot of respect for them, and all of the glitches are fun and puts them over Yellow at least. I'd also take them over the mess that was Let's Go. But everything else?

I can't really imagine having fun with any new pokemon campaigns when meaningful interactivity is kinda gone.

But I can't imagine the competitive side NOT being better.

From a raw gameplay perspective Red/Blue is the worst in the series and honestly not an especially good game period considering how borked a ton of stuff is.

I have played Pokemon RB recently (via randomizer which mind you has some QOL attached) and it was much, much worse than I remembered. And I remembered it being pretty bad. This isn't a contest.

RB's raw gameplay wasn't even good in the year that it came out. What made it popular was all the extra stuff which this topic explicitly ignores.
