They went out of their way in the remake of 2 to put together AI for Mr X that follows you through doors and actively hunts you all over the place for chunks of the game. Then they remade 3 and took Nemesis, whose entire draw was being able to hunt you and follow you around through doors during certain parts of the game (albeit in limited fashion), and made every encounter with him even more scripted than the PSX game.

what a slapdash cash in that thing was

I think they wanted to rush it out the door so they could work on RE4make, but then Capcom didn't like it and took the project away from them.

It really does suck.

He had some cool setpiece boss fight moments, and i really liked his new look. But they should have had him pursue you more. Maybe even have "random" appearances so every playthrough has some surprises for you.

But the game is so short that there wouldnt be much room for something like that. If they gave the game another year to flesh it out (maybe totally skip out on resistance and focus all those efforts on RE3) we would have had something special.

But thats all shouldacouldawoulda

It was made by a different team than the 2 or 4 remakes. Corporate still probably rushed it through to strike while the iron was hot but it wasn't because they had something else to work on.

He does that the first time and I think one other time in an area that you can choose to just run through instead. Then they just said fuck it.

I dont really like stalker enemies, but he at least has a risk/reward thing where if you beat on him you get some drops. That aspect is pretty cool

I've never played Resident Evil, but looking in on the franchise and its fanbase through the years I always got the impression that people were fairly meh on Nemesis the character.

Fitting since the original RE3 was the most disappointing mainline RE and one of the most meh RE games in general.

Nah all of his interactions are scripted in RE3make.

As someone who 100%d both RE2 and RE3 remakes, his appearances were disappointing when thinking about Mr. X.

RE3make was more action game with the dodge roll and was just stupidly easier overall. The very last nemesis fight on hardest difficulty was hard but not for any good reason.

???

The Nemesis is probably the most recognized and beloved of the original 3 games' boss characters. Birkin might be a close second, but Nemesis was the one for a long time.

They even skipped straight to Nemesis in the movie series, which.......was horrendous, but the point is, they did it because of how popular the character was.

Not at all and I'm pretty sure I've told you this before. CV had multiple different boss battles, had more memorable villains, is more plot-relevant to future games, didn't reuse the same location as the previous game, better puzzles, and way better music.

People have been kind of meh about resident evil 3 for awhile (I dont agree even if I prefer 1 and 2), but nemesis was generally one of the aspects of the game i didn't see much people hating on. He's really interesting in the original because it's constantly giving you ways to mitigate running into him because he's tough as hell and can kill you rereally easy. It gives him an air of being really threatening the first time through and he remains pretty alarming throughout most of the game. But there are also usually benefits to fighting him if you're good enough and have enough resources so it adds an aspect of replayability and skill growth.

In the remake, he's just sort of an annoying guy who shows up now and then for insanely scripted action movie sequences, and you're seeing him get bodied repeatedly like a short ways into the game. There's no aspect of weighing risk vs reward and no real mystique to his presence, and it seems like such a total waste to throw out the cool work they did with Mr X in favor of that.

That's what happens for outsourcing it to M-Two.

Shame RE3R had to take the hit, but at least it scared Capcom enough to do RE4R in-house instead of M-Two again.

It's all just a naming thing, anyway. Obviously, we should be calling them by their proper names. Resident Evil 3 is called Resident Evil 3, and RE: Code Veronica is RE: Code Veronica.

Regardless of which one is better, advances the story more, or has more polish, they are what they are and it's too late to rename them now.

Forget about it. RE3 was always literal scrap thrown together to push out a quick sequel, AKA thoughtless cash grab. At best, it should be an unlockable mission in one of the prior titles but really just should not exist.

The remake was destined to be disappointing, the original was really irrelevant besides the gimmick of Nemesis and they used his gimmick on Mr X in RE2 remake.
