I mean first it can't be that significative if you can only manage to maintain that relationship for less than a year, and second, how can you get over and become truly interested in someone else almost immediatly? Which is what having 1 "gf" a year would have to imply.

This is a strange thing to call into question.

You can know someone for a short time and still feel emotionally invested.

What? I've seen people have multiple girlfriends in a single year. Just because they don't become long term partners doesn't mean they don't count as a girlfriend.

Lol not really, especially when it happens non stop with different people for 9 years. They can't be very deep relationships if you're jumping from one to another so regularly

I can't tell what could have possibly seemed shocking about what I said that you would question it being serious especially considering that your response here is a confirmation of what I said.

Im gonna flip it and say Ive had 5 boyfriends, the last of whom Ive been married to for 27 1/2 years.

in my adult years i think i've had five gfs, one or two fwbs, and a half dozen or so casual relationships

Maybe we just have a different definition of flings. Like 2, maybe three where under 3 months. Anything more than that was atleast relatively serious for me. My first real relationship was at 14, and lasted a year long.

The topic simply asked how many girlfriends we've had. The guy said 9 and you took issue with that number. That's what we're talking about. You just date until you discuss your relationship status and make things official. That's all it takes. Not sure why you're trying to make an argument that there has to be some deep emotional investment before they're considered your girlfriend.

Also, I disagree. I had 3 in one year. I can get emotionally invested after a month or two. Whether I should or not is another story.
