Every time I hear either Zoomers or Millennials complain about Boomers, I chuckle. Because youth culture today is nearly identical in so many ways to the youth culture of the 60s. And most of the complaints about the Boomers are the exact same sorts of things the Boomers themselves were saying about their parents. All those old people ruined the planet, man! But we're going to be the ones who fix it all!

Which is why I generally assume most of the people whining about Boomers today and going to grow up to be failures and embittered fucks who do far more harm to the world than good, just like the Boomers did. And the generations that come after them are going to hate them.

Obviously its millennials that are tied up with boomers. Though Id say its really the young boomers vs the elder millennials. Older boomers at this point are mid 70s.

For now, sure. But Boomers were fine learning new tech and adapting to new ideas (and innovating themselves) when they were younger. It's really only getting older and slowly calcifying that kind of takes that skill away. And it happens to literally everyone. Gen X is sort of in the middle of it now - the same kids who had to set the clock on the VCR for their parents or help set up the household PC are now having trouble figuring out how to use their phones.

40 years from now the next younger generation will be complaining that their Zoomer parents don't know how to calibrate their neural net helmets or can't work the teleporter right or whatever it is that's cutting edge by then.

Again, sure, Boomers are going to suck if you're comparing them NOW to Zoomers today. But what you really need to do is look at the Boomers when they were young. Basically, what they were like in the 60s.

And when you do that, they basically just look and act like Zoomers. Just with worse fashion sense but better music.

There's some amount of truth here. The apple landscape has really removed the tech knowledge from using the tech, so they do start from a lower place than my generation did.

And the puritan thing has some truth as well. A lot of what I learned was to listen to people and assess harm when harm is conveyed. Not to prejudge any relationship without direct evidence of harm. Just because something is icky to you, doesn't mean it is inherently harmful. This is sort of the ground work that has made it more possible for the LGBT communities to not be so insular.

And this generation has kind of swung back in the other direction where harm is always assumed given certain conditions. Usually given whatever flavor of the month buzz word is floating around. If I have to hear about how some 40 year old celebrity is a groomer for dating somebody that is 28 one more time, I think my eyes will roll all the way around.

I personally cringe when it happens, but could it be just that some 13 years old has no concept of nuance yet due to their youth and just compare the difference with their direct age?

See how that criticism is both valid and also completely irrelevant? It does not matter one fuck if zoomers aren't super fluent at Microsoft word. The world has moved on past the point where people need a specialist education in office apps in order to be able to do an office job competently.

Apps are so ridiculously easy to use now that most of the training you used to need can now be resolved by pressing buttons.

E.g. most of the formulas that people use in excel are now handled by in-built functions. Press a button, get a sum to happen.

We also have an endless font of information on the internet. If I need to do a thing in an office app, I google it. Zoomers are no different.

When there is a need for training, the requirement is ridiculously overblown. Give a zoomer a week with an app like this and they'll be better than you by the end of it.

The kids are fine.
