A big part of the most recent push for statehood, beyond Dems hoping for two additional Senate seats, is the fact that Puerto Rico has been racking up massive amounts of debt with no plan to repay it and at this point they need a complete Federal bailout to have any chance of recovery. --- "History Is Much Like An Endless Waltz.
