First read the trilogy when I was 10-11. I was in love with it, and the ending cut me deep. Read it a few more times throughout the years, and when I was 17 I remember going STRAIGHT to the movie theater after school with a friend to watch The Golden Compass the day it came out. I left feeling incredibly let down. I still felt the disappoint over a decade later, along with the knowledge that it basically failed its one shot.

Cue complete shock by all the fans when the BBC announced and aired a TV series adaptation in 2019 and now this month it finally concluded all three of the books. It's not without its flaws but overall I've been in love with the show. Great casting, emotional, even has a very good soundtrack (Lorne Balfe). All the scenes and characters we fans thought we'd never see on a screen, we finally have. Watching the finale brought back all the feelings I felt as a kid reading it for the first time. It's definitely worth a watch (and especially a read, for book readers of fantasy).

I liked season 1 but then they started doing multiverse shit and I didn't care about the Will kid so I stopped.

Still need to watch the series. Haven't read the books since childhood. I remember the last one being a little too internet atheist.

Right lmao. I remember the outrage back then over the themes of it, especially when the movie came out.

The casting was excellent and Ruth Wilson is so damn superb. I'm excited to finally finish the journey.

I read the first book of the new trilogy (the one that's a prequel) but I'm waiting for the final book to release before I read TSC. At the end of S3 there's this text about "further adventures that's for another story..." thing that hints that they could be looking into adapting the next trilogy. It would actually work out well imo since Lyra's actress would be the right age for it once they get to filming where she'd be in it.

Ruth Wilson has so many good scenes, her acting is entrancing. I love McAvoy as Asriel, too. There's one particular scene they have together later that's really memorable.

imo yes, pretty great. Not perfect, and a lot of those cons are smaller and in the department of the CGI budget. And those things non-book readers wouldn't even care about at all as they wouldn't know.

It took me a while to get used to him. I only know him as Hamilton pretty much so it was tough mentally separating him from that at first. I ended up liking him, though.

Another casting choice I'm in love with is Mary Malone.

I've been enjoying the series, I'm on the current season.
