I don't see why not.

Although the left one needs some tweaking with the cable connecting the drive to the board (it works right now but if you play for awhile I'm thinking it'll get spotty). Previously it was just dead due to me tinkering with the ribbon cable and it just refusing to power on but I plugged it in tonight after a few months of just sitting idle and it was working again.

Bluray drive died in my 20gb model a long time ago. Otherwise pipes along fairly well.

Fun times!!! I still have a refurbished PS3. I could still had my original I bought at Best Buy in late '07, but it's my fault I didn't dust out its vents better. I feel like that is one is on me and yet the refurb'd one I got runs so loud I guess now I am just afraid it's going to go kaput so I didn't like using it in the summer or sorta in general after while. I feel like they did a bad job on the refurb because my OG phat PS1-2 and 3 machine never ran as loud as it did initially.

Times and dates now eh but OG BC PS3 October '07 to like '12 or somewhere around there.

Why do you have four

Circumstance, mostly.

1st one is the slim and my "primary" console (i.e. the one with all the auto-sync stuff set up for PSN). It replaced a super slim due to the next PS3 entering my life.

2nd is a fully BC model I bought at a pawn shop earlier this year (the left one in the picture). I sold the super slim to them to help pay for it because I liked the slim better. I've had it recapped and delidded but due to issues with the BD drive cable it's been on the mend for awhile. It snapped back to life tonight (although as I said earlier I still think the drive is going to be in and out).

3rd is the non-BC fatboy (the rightmost console). I got that at a garage sale with some games for like $30 and it was standing in for the previous PS3 after it seemingly gave up the ghost.

The 4th is one I just procured this past weekend (the middle console) at a garage sale for $100. It too is a fully hardware BC console and came with two SIXAXIS controllers. I intend to probably give this one the same delid/recap treatment as the previous BC console at some point next year.

All of them are going to have their HDDs replaced with 1TB SSHDs once they arrive (the two ones that have been active both run 750GB drives at the moment).

Funny enough, my close friend had the BC model and that thing sang like a feckin wind tunnel. I'm talkin turbulence. I'd joke with him saying his console is gonna detonate one of these days. Nope. He never had a single issue, not drive, not controller, nothing. My console had the drive die and the original sixaxis die within a year lol. Is rather quiet still, tho lol.

i'm really happy with it, it's just a much better way to play PS1 and 2 games on 4K TVs than trying to fuck with cheap HD converters and stuff. i even got the weird thing that copies your old memory cards to the system memory

it was an official thing they sold for a little while that you plugged in with the USB port, then plugged your memory cards into that. i imported one from japan for 60 bucks, honestly can't believe anything works, lol

I've never even seen those before. This topic is delivering on all fronts.

edit: To clarify, I'm now actively searching for BC models of PS3 lol. I've never dabbled in the 2nd hand market for consoles tbh. I'm not flushed with cash, but I don't want to throw away money either. Did you guys throw caution to the wind and just take a chance?

With a FreeMCBoot PS2 (and LaunchELF specifically) you can migrate PS1 and PS2 saves over to a PS3 using a USB flash drive.

Oh I still have that. It was rare but not really costly I think at one time (may have changed by now). I used that to pull all my Persona 3 data off of it to play on my PS3 (pretty much everything). Not sure why I didn't have the backups on my cards anymore for Persona 3 I don't remember. Man I wish I did!

At that this point I think it would be VERY Risky to buy a BC PS3. From what I know Sony used a lead free sodder paste on the PS3 motherboard near the fan area (sorry I don't have the technicals down but I think this is right generally) so what would happen is that the soddering would get super heated and not be able to handle it (even with the fan going haywire) so this what would cause the yellow ring of death for the PS3s (not as widespread as Xbox360s I think) but serious enough where if this happened to your console you could mail it to Sony and they would send you a free replacement (except the user had to pay shipping).

Hilariously my OG PS3 died with a copy of NHL 2K8 inside. I bet that was the first time they saw a PS3 stuck with that. As I said before though I think if I took care of it better, I would have gotten even more years out of it, despite how the system was made.
