I only remember seeing it in the first episode, does it just never get used again?

Like twice more. Pretty sure they just reuse the footage from the first episode. It turned out to be extremely expensive.

I think it is seen 3 times in the show and once in the movies.

I have no idea why they even came up with that.

Seems like really bad design to have 1 bridge for main command of the ship and a second bridge for main command of the ship but worse lighting.

I mean in canon what did the battle bridge even do that the main bridge couldn't?

Isn't the idea that it's in the main body of the ship rather than the saucer, so they can use it in the case of a saucer detachment?

That wouldn't explain the mood lighting, but I think that - like so many things in Trek - that could be written off as something Riker put in place in case he wants to go there to get laid.

The Enterprise isn't a military ship, it's an exploration vessel with a large civilian population (including children) on board. The idea was that the civilians would gather in the saucer section and retreat to a starbase or allied territory while the officers in the stardrive section dealt with the threat. Realistically, the Enterprise should have separated way more often lol.

The low-light thing is honestly just for dramatic effect. Voyager does the same thing when it goes into red alert. I think the only reasonable explanation is that the ship is diverting power from nonessential systems and even that's kind of silly.

Oh, and this is just silly Trek stuff. The bridge should realistically be put in the middle of the ship in the most secure position, far from enemy fire. But because spaceships are totally the same thing as cars, the bridge is instead at the very top of the saucer section.

I feel like you guys missed my point.

I get that the bridge is in the saucer section and the battle bridge isn't

My question was WHY the bridge was in the saucer section? Why didn't they always use the battle bridge?

Having your senior crew needing to travel half the ship to reach battlestations Is nuts

If they need to separate the saucer from the body to get away from an engine explosion, then it is pretty nice to have the senior crew already in the saucer.
And traditions.
