How long did it take you to be comfortable and how much work did you put in daily?

I took introductory french in middle school. I always wanted to continue it and learn it properly, but I still remember basic words and numbers and basic sentence structure.

Im currently learning Vietnamese.

Im alright on certain topics but really struggle still in most areas. I put aside at least 15 minutes per day for studying, without fail. Its usually more than that.

It probably helps that I have a Vietnamese girlfriend, my closest colleague at work is Vietnamese and Im living in a non-westerner area of Hanoi.

Sounds like you got a lot working in your favor and will have a good grasp of it in no time. Its hard to beat immersion training like that.

I took a year of French in college, but I had too much disdain for the language to want to try to be fluent/conversational.
