At this point, it's fair to question whether his name is really George Santos.

This doesn't 100% prove he lied. He could have mental problems and could have slipped. If he did lie and it is confirmed in another concrete way that is incredibly scummy though.

We are at the point we might start asking is he like a Russian/Chinese spy. That or mental illness are only explanations for how much he has lied about his backstory.

I like that this has become the GOP talking point. Not that a member of their party is a liar and likely committed financial crimes but that the dems didnt catch it.

He's not "misremembering the date". He's specifically trying to garner sympathy by claiming his mother died in the biggest terrorist attack the US has ever seen. Don't be obtuse.

If there is one day you don't forget the death anniversary of it's 9/11. Especially if you are strongly implying that said dead person died in the terrorist attack commonly known as "9/11".

Some of the lies behind his fabricated life story are so fucking blatant that they would be revealed with even the slightest bit of scrutiny. Like for example how he claimed to be a gay man despite divorcing his wife mere days before his campaign started (I know being closeted is a thing but that is a fast about-face, and details about his supposed husband turned out to be fake too)

when we first got the hamster, his name was Hamlet, we let him run around on the floor a bit.
first thing he did was find a small hole that led to a tiny area behind the kitchen cupboards and it took hours to get him out.
we kept him in the cage majority of the time after that

Given that the guy has lied about basically every other fact about his life, I think its more than reasonable to conclude he also lied about his moms death here.

That said, its entirely possible, based on the way he worded it, that she died as a result of chronic illness caused by breathing in dust and debris from the 9/11 attacks, which is something we know has happened to many 9/11 first responders and survivors. It wouldby a pretty strained technicality, mind yoube accurate then, to still claim that 9/11 claimed her life despite her not dying in the attacks themselves.

Yeah, from this she was apparently a victim of 9/11 considering it negatively impacted her life causing terminal illness which led to her death later on, but she wasn't directly killed on the date. He should have been more specific.

He literally was in a purple district that could have gone either way, and has already made it to where he's out the next election. If you're a Republican, you should be mad this guy cost you a 2024 race already.

I mean, this is just another thing that us normal people don't give the benefit of. If my employer found out I lied about nearly everything on my resume in order to improve my chances, I would be fired on the spot.

but with their small victories, the mainstream GOP now has to let people like Magic the Gathering have a stronger say than what they wanted to give her. And if McCarthy isn't the Speaker like they want, I can imagine they are fearing what loon people like her are going to elect, considering her outward appearance (in terms of beliefs and opinions spouted on major news networks) are 100% proven to be a negative for the party's health.

Yeah, I'm sure in the run up to last Christmas lots of people got confused and thought that December 22nd was the fifth anniversary of 9/11

He made up a grandpa who fled the holocaust in Nazi Ukraine, so he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt on if he slipped up about his mom
