I actually follow a guy on youtube who does nothing but stupid nuzlocke challenge runs, which I approve of. I remember the original comic, too. I've tried exactly one nuzlocke, Y, where I lost to the fairy gym, and that was it. 100% pro-nuzlockes here.

Fakemons: It might surprise you to learn that I have no problem at all with OCs. I've thought about this before, and I think the IPs that are the easiest to insert OCs into are Sonic the Hedgehog, Danganronpa, and Pokemon. Sonic the Hedgehog and Danganronpa because you just need one gimmick personality trait and skill for them, and Pokemon because anyone can draw an animal with an angry face. Fakemons are a fine bit of fan content, so I'm onboard with them.

Guzma: Great Team leader, in the sense that Team Skull has no point or goal, so he's basically just a guy. He's also one of the few Pokemon characters who's not, like, THAT ridiculous-looking. But for the sunglasses, he would almost be someone you could see in real life.

Brock: It's interesting that this is the first boss of the entire series (discounting Gary). Game Brock is the most nothing character of all time: he has no personality, no goals, no skills of any kind, he's just there to introduce you to the idea of battling strong trainers. And Onix is clearly designed to just be in Brock's gym, which is why it's powerful for a level 9 pokemon, but is completely useless -- it was designed for this very specific purpose, not to be actually balanced (in the same way, Voltorb is just there to be a D&D mimic). Anime Brock, though, is more interesting, in that he has anything to him at all. But can you imagine anime Brock being a character today? I can't imagine anyone getting cancelled faster than this man. One thing that I've always remembered about anime Brock is that there's just a random episode where Ash needs to go off on his own for plot purposes, so Brock says "I need to go do some stuff," Ash says "what?", and Brock just says "some stuff," and leaves, and returns at the end of the episode with no explanation. Brock also holds the distinction of being the first main character to be written out of the anime, though you can claim it's actually Tracey since Brock returned for a few more years after that. I bring all of this up to point out how if Nintendo could go back in time, it would absolutely replace Brock with someone more interesting or significant, and remove Raichu entirely.

Technical Machines: I almost never use them except in the games where they're reusable, because I'm always like "well what if I need it laterrrrrrrr." It's interesting that even in Gen 1, which is not a very well-designed game, they still understood the importance of giving you some ability to customize movesets. But anyway, how do TMs work, exactly? They're just CDs. First off, how do I download the information for flamethrower into my Growlithe's forehead, and second, shouldn't it all just be streamed by now?

Iono: I don't HATE the idea of Magnemite hairclips, and in fact, I sort of like it. But that's the only positive thing I'll say about Iono. I hate the idea of her being an influencer, I hate her clothes, and I hate how the commercial for the game implies that she's intentionally playing up her ditziness, but then that is just not present in the game at all. Also, Bellibolt sucks. Definitely my least favorite SV gym leader, not sure if she's my least favorite overall. How these types of characters are popular in Japan is beyond me.

Baby Pokemon: No one actually likes baby pokemon, right? The only one that isn't ugly is Pichu. They add nothing interesting to the franchise, and are all completely useless. Even worse, raising things to max happiness is the most annoying method of evolution in the series.

Was really really tempted to nominate the Best Wishes episode that was basically Wish Maker but better and shorter and uses Chiisaki Mono as an insert in an absolutely beautiful and perfect way but I would hope you havent seen that cause it means you probably also suffered through the rest of BW lmfao (its BW ep 132)

Nemona: I went ahead and looked up all of the rivals, and Jesus Christ, I barely remember any of these people besides Blue and Silver. I vaguely remember Hop being annoying and talking too much, and I remember Bede becoming the fairy gym leader as his arc, but I legit don't remember Wally, Hugh, Calem/Serena, Shauna, or Trevor at all. If you told me that Tierno was a fake character, I'd believe you. Oh, Nemona, right. Can you believe it took until generation 9 to have a female rival? Anyway, she's super memeable and goofy, but not in an annoying way like Hau. Her obsession with constantly fighting people, along with the vaguely meta concept of "I already beat the game once, guess I'll do it again with different pokemon" is good, as is her "oh we just happened to bump into each other again how COINCIDENTAL." I'll tell you this, though: I waited the entire game for Nemona to be like "okay, you beat me, now I'll use my original team from when I beat Geeta the first time" and bust out some kind of super level 80 team of ass-destroyers, and it never happened. She just kept throwing out her stupid Orthworm and Pawmot.

S.S. Anne Truck: They added this truck as just a random bit of scenery, like "wouldn't it make sense for a loading truck to be around a cruise ship?" Jesus Christ, thinking about it, when was the next car in the series? I cannot think of any other one, people in this universe always seem to get around by bicycle, pokemon, train, or boat. Clay (Gym Leader): Definitely the best BW gym leader, Clay is just a silly cowboy who likes mining, I guess. Wouldn't it be great if like gen 10 has the most random gym leader reappear, being like "oh yeah, I moved, I used to live in Japan," and you have to fight Chuck or Wattson or Maylene or something.
Pokemon Stadium Minigames: Holy crap, these were added for the English version? Japan actually DIDN'T get something we did? How bizarre. Anyway, the only one of these I particularly remember is the Lickitung sushi one. I didn't like these THAT much, but they gave you something else to do, which is nice.

Starfall Street: As far an open world concept goes, giving the player three different quests (fighting gyms, acquiring HMs, stopping the evil Team) was a great idea. Team Star is kind of the most pointless of them, though? Team Star has even less of a goal than Team Skull. I was never like "oh man, I wonder what that wacky Team Star will do next." We haven't even had an actual evil Team with a goal since Team freaking Flare, and Team Star couldn't even go all the way with their high school delinquent theme and have messed-up uniforms or something. Anyway, the idea of a unique way to battle against Team Star by fighting many of them at once is good, but nothing ever felt like a climax. Paldea has no big dungeons for you to enter and fight in (besides Area Zero), so there's no office building where you have to teleport a million times and finally take down the evil team leader's... rhydon. It's definitely the weakest of the questlines, is what I'm saying, and its competition included "save my ugly dog with subway sandwiches."

Skyarrow Bridge: I thought for these last twelve years that this was a reference to the Golden Gate Bridge, but Bulbapedia says it's the Brooklyn Bridge. Whoops! Anyway, I have exactly one memory of this bridge. It is when I was traveling across it and found a feather in a shiny spot. I think this is also where I encountered a Swanna for the first time? I distinctly remember being disappointed that Ducklett turns into a swan, but is not an ugly duckling.

Chiisaki Mono: I like Jirachi much less than normal, but I won't hold that against this song. It's just a generic anime song. The lyrics might be amazing, but since I don't speak English, I don't care. I'm actually watching it on youtube, and someone editted clips of the anime over it, and I had zero memory of Brock being around in Hoenn, for some reason, I thought Misty outlasted him. This gives me NOTHING. Since the singer just said "watashi," I'll tell you my only Japanese story. In high school, the options for language class we had were Spanish and Japanese. I took Spanish, and all of my friends took Japanese "so we can watch anime and play video games before they come out here." One day, I stole a french fry from a girl Amy, who held her fries to her chest and said "Watashi no," and I responded with "Watashi yes," and everyone laughed.

Hidden Machines: Aside from the obvious point that these are never actually hidden, everyone hates HMs, right? The moves themselves are always useless even in-game except for surf, waterfall, fly, and maybe strength, and only then if you have the right pokemon. It still wouldn't really be a problem if HMs weren't unlearnable. What was even the point of that decision, even back in RBY? I know that they needed to do that to ensure you couldn't get locked behind a boulder or something if you unlearn strength in the wrong spot, but why even include this mechanic in the first place? Completely bizarre. And yet when you play BDSP, they just replaced the HMs with summonable pokemon, which makes all of them completely pointless. I can't imagine being like ten and playing that game and encountering a tree that you can cut and being like "why is this even a thing" because you can just click it to be cut with no problem. Completely insane. Also, cut should have been changed to be a steel move.

Yeah, fair point about Starfall Street. It's even more disappointing since I thought they had potential there since the camaraderie between the squad leaders are pretty great. But they never actually do anything, even in the back story. So that's just...weird.

I don't think that's correct. You may be confused because our Pokemon Stadium is Japan's Pokemon Stadium 2. The original Pokemon Stadium was only released in Japan and is basically like a prototype for the much better sequel.
