Essentially, Knock at the Cabin is based on a book by Paul Tremblay, Cabin at the End of the World. Tremblay is one of the biggest horror authors to come out of the last decade, and I'm frankly surprised he hasn't been adapted already as A Head Full of Ghosts was a much bigger book and just screaming for it, but I was excited about this one until I saw how Shyamalan has been carefully cutting any mention of the author or the original book out of the marketing and trying to treat it as an original movie :/

Does seem scummy to try to pretend like he created the story

I read the synopsis of the book, the ending reads exactly like a Shyamalan ending.

Not really? His endings tend to be heavily explained twists, this one was pretty ambiguous

I don't really think he's alone in this kind of thing though.

It's been out almost 30 years, and there's people that don't know Shawshank was based on a Stephen King short story. Even when it was released, they didn't do much to let people know that.

I haven't seen much about this particular movie, but what are people expecting him to do? "Before I answer that, I just want to remind everyone of the source material, and that it exists."?

It's not unheard of for trailers not to mention it - My Best Friend's Exorcism and The Black Phone both skipped mentioning their authors with comparable popularity - but when the poster for this dropped, the only way anyone even knew it was based on the book was that Tremblay confirmed it, and he's said he's disappointed to not get mentioned. Most of the mention tends to come from announcements and tie-ins, like mentioning the book to get people excited for the movie, but this is skipping all that, isn't even releasing a book tie in until a week or so after the movie.

If I made a movie based on a book, I wouldn't mention the book until several weeks after release. Especially if my movie followed the book faithfully.

Too many sad losers on the internet that enjoy spoiling shit for others.

But I doubt the movie is going to have the same ending, doesn't seem like Shyamalan's style
