Like maybe I'm crazy, but the internet used to feel a LOT more social. I miss forums and chat rooms full of random people but not so overcrowded that you can't learn a few names and make a few friends. I miss public servers in games that had people coming and going but also had regular faces you would get to know over time, now it seems gaming has all gone towards matchmaking, which is great as an option but not a replacement :(

It was nice wasn't it?
The way things have changed is the main thing keeps me from going back to Runescape. I don't want to see a zombified version of Varrock full of lost souls fighting over scraps of the happiness that used to be abundant there.

I don't even hate social media. I've used tons of twitter and reddit and FB and still do(less so Twitter). I just wish MY kind of socialization didn't die off as the bigger ones were introduced :(

But it's ok because occasionally the void screams back! /s

Thing is I actually used to have quite a few Twitch chats that WERE what I liked. But Twitch has gotten bigger, and those chats have gotten bigger with it, while it's harder and harder to find someone in the middle, a decent sized chat with chill people.

I miss going into an AIM chatroom and getting hounded by 500 bots per second.

Back in the day B8 used to have a regular AIM chat, with one user who would occasionally go on a tantrum and flood it with bods so we had to make secret chats that eventually got leaked to him

I loved socom. People had their lobbies that they basically owned and you could find them there most nights. That game had an awesome small community feel to it (probably because the community was really small compared to now)

100% the reason for me. If not for that I'd have let it stick when I closed my account :(

The internet of the 90s/00s used to have this vibe or feeling I can't put into words. It just different in a good way. Now most of it is too streamlined and "corporate" feeling. I hate to use the word casual, but that's the best word I can think of at the moment to describe it.

For real. Once they did that I lost all interest going to it. It was so nice to be able to go to a specfic movie board to discuss it. I learned a lot from them. The big boards were pretty toxic, but I just avoided those just like how I avoid toxic places now. People rag on reddit and twitter a lot for it, but I never really see any of it as much because I don't seek out the toxicity.
