Back during Obama's presidency, she was coming home from Brazil when an immigration official in Houston noted on her record that she had a previous arrest(from 8 years before) for paraphernalia in Wisconsin. The previous charge had been completely resolved, all fines paid and community service done, so the judge opted not to look into deportation. Meaning when the Houston official looked at it, because of some complete lack of logic and humanity, they were willing and able to initiate deportation proceedings, leading to an absolute nightmare that lasted for months before she was able to come home, and then another year after that.

She's a full citizen now and works for one of our state's senators, but victimization like that leaves real scars :/

Yup. She normally did layovers further north, but something had gone wrong with that plan this time so they had to stop there.

Still absolutely insane that they ever had any legal right to do it. The option should've been closed the moment the judge opted not to pursue it.

I also distinctly remember certain problem elements of CE trying to justify this at the time lol

Yup. It needs a significant overhaul but I don't see it happening :(
