Windows 8.1 support has ended so its now a dead OS. Now only recent versions of Windows 10, and Windows 11 are supported. Windows 8 sucked but Windows 8.1 was fine from memory. The start screen was trash though ... Copied to Clipboard!

It's more space to organize stuff, and it only requires one click to open your program and have the screen go away. I never used the desktop so I never used the metro start screen as a desktop replacement. I never click anything if I dont have to, I only search and hit enter, and windows 8 completely breaks that workflow if what you were searching for wasnt specifically an installed application. Search for local users and groups for instance and you have to click away from the applications search results and into the settings search results or whatever, turning what used to be a few key presses in under a second, into a multi-second task requiring both the mouse and keyboard. and folders are way better for organisation than whatever the fuck the tiles were supposed to be ...
