M&MS is making a statement with its latest candy pack, which features an all-female set of characters including Purple, its newest addition. It put the company once again knee-deep into culture wars controversy.

Candy maker Mars announced that the limited edition all-female pack will include only Purple, Brown and Green the candys trio of female characters, who are upside-down on the package to celebrate women everywhere who are flipping the status quo. The packs are currently on sale.

Purple, the spokescandy announced last year (and the first new M&MS character in a decade), is a purple peanut M&M. According to the brand, she is a singer who forgoes high heels for lace-up boots and has a quirky, confident personality.

The M&MS brand is on a mission to use the power of fun to create purposeful connections, as we work to create a world where everyone feels they belong, said Gabrielle Wesley, chief marketing officer for Mars Wrigley North America, in a press release.

The packs come in three options: milk chocolate, peanut butter and peanut. Mars said that a portion of profits will go to organizations that are uplifting and empowering women, including She Is The Music and We Are Moving the Needle, nonprofit organizations that support women in the music industry.

The all-female pack quickly sparked culture wars outrage on right-wing news networks and on social media. One Fox anchor said the feminist-forward pack emboldens China.

If this is what you need for validation, an M&M that is the color that you think is associated with feminism, then Im worried about you, anchor Martha MacCallum said Monday. I think that makes China say, Oh, good, keep focusing on that. Keep focusing on giving people their own color M&MS while we take over all of the mineral deposits in the entire world.

See now if everyone was just like "okay it's candy So what" that would be the end of it but these reactions are fueling it. People get all weirdly misogynistic about candy they get a lot of free publicity and a bunch of people feel compelled to buy it because alt right t morons are making fun of it and it makes it feel like fighting back when otherwise it would just be cartoon candy people. Being all weird about it being "woke" is just inspiring more of this kind of promotion because it gives it attention.

So many shows starring black people are about how racism is bad because racist people keep getting mad about shows with black people in them trying to tell them not to be racist. Don't care that they made all female packaging but any huge corporation making some public social stand is so cringeworthy when you know they're probably abusing the fuck out of their employees.

Fun fact:

The movie Matilda had a scene where a boy was eating candies, one of which was a blue M&M. This was when the blue ones were just introduced.

However, the movie takes place decades before the blue ones ever came out.
