It's been over a year since I played it and I still hate that it had to end after only a few months.
You'd think a game about a magic Fisher Price lightsaber that bends timelines out of shape would give you more options to make your repeat playthroughs more interesting.

Higher difficulties, the ability to help other players, a better arena mode, maybe have an extra long, really difficult final sidequest pertaining to each character. Something at least.
That was my favorite cast of characters in fuck knows how long.

2 and 3 have the battle arenas you want with difficulty tweaks

They don't have Reyn though. I can't mouth Garbage Day! to myself while doing Magnum Charge then Sword Drive in them.
I can't hear Dunban try to say two long lines in quick succession and cut himself off.
They're games where I can't press on and on and on and on and on and
With them, I won't be able to mistake Shulk's pronunciation of Air Slash for an American accent saying Ass Rush!
No Mechanical Rhythm, no You Will Know Our Names, no Gaur Plain.
No Alleyoop.

I needed a while to stop referring to Shulk, Reyn and Dunban as Tidus, Wakka and Auron too. I wasn't even doing it on purpose at first.

And you're right.
Both have red hair, both say quotable things, both are the main character's pal, both want to destroy machinery until they don't, both get matched up with edit: SOMEWHAT SIMILAR LOVE INTERESTS and both are the best character in battles even if the plot doesn't want to acknowledge it.

And you're right.

Honestly though the balls of this game to start with the THEY'RE EATING HER! AND THEN THEY'RE GOING TO EAT ME! bit and end on HEY KID IMMA COMPUTAH STOP ALL THE DOWNLOADIN!

That's how you know you're really enjoying something, the point where you start digging up old jokes and references, pulling the new thing right in with all the stuff you already like. Where even if the game drops the ball and let's say a villain reveal ends up being pretty lame, you're still more than willing and prepared to YTP the plot/lore to your liking.

Yep. Later Xenoblade games improved on the sidequests tremendously.

After putting 120+ hours into the Definitive Edition, I have to agree. I honestly didn't mind the fetch quests but the quests themselves were essentially "can you get me these flowers/food/monster guts so I can do this thing?" A little too basic for RPG standards

It sure was nice fighting things either to level or just for the fun of the combat system, then receiving a bunch of quests that auto-complete because of the drops I got earlier though.

But I agree it would have been cool if they took more cues from something like Runescape for the sidequests.
Colony 6 repairs could have used a tidy up too. It could have been a series of quests to get the items from specific locations or take them off of boss enemies rather than "Here's a list of items. Choose between running around waiting for drops or repeatedly killing the same evil mammoth thing in that arena mode."

I still appreciated the game trying to prolong the last stretch. Especially with how They don't need you anymore, your work is done, go back to your human world that ending feels.

Yep. I think Xenoblade X and Xenoblade 3 are by far the best in terms of sidequest quality, with XC1 far behind. There's only a small handful of quests that are interesting in XC1 out of the literal 600+.
