Without Goku or Shepard respectively the "science sidekick" would be dead and wouldn't do shit. Everything they did was literally to assist the protaganist when they did all the important stuff. Bulma's family also appeared in that final chapter, along with Bulma herself. It's explained that Tights is extremely independent and is off living her own life most of the time.
