They're setting up that Joel's behavior is drastically altered from that pivotal moment where his daughter died, where his protective instincts/PTSD causes him to resort to violence. The words chosen, that Ellie is "activated" by this behavior, shows that Joel may be influencing her in a bad way and cause her to make decisions she'd regret in the future. They're "meant for each other" but in a bad way.

Trying to lessen the controversy I think if they end up going with a season 2 to adapt the second game.

I noticed that as well. The show seems to be doing well so far so hopefully they see it through to the second game.

Hopefully they change that pivotal moment in tlou2-season 2

All of that was already intended in the games. That's how we get the Winter section.

They can just focus on it a lot more in the TV format. Death and murder overall has a lot more meaning when it's not happening most of the time.

They've already said that if it is renewed Seasons 2 and 3 will cover Part 2, and if you have played the game you know exactly what they mean.

Oh, two seasons for part 2. Yeah that makes sense given how Part 2's story is.

In the podcast, they talk about how the through line in this series is that love is not an inherently good force and that loving someone can compel you to do horrible things.

If they do it like it was in the game, then season 2 would end on the shittiest cliffhanger since Halo 2, so they'll probably tweak it a bit. Which is good, because that game's structure and pacing needs some massive tweaking.

I havent played the second game but I know about Joels death. Does he die early in the game?

I cant imagine this show going on for many seasons if theyre just gonna power through the source material. But perhaps thatll be a good thing, not milked to death like so many other shows that dont know when to end.
