It's bad.
All the characters, except for Shaggy, are totally unlikable. For Fred it kind of works for me, because it's so extreme that it becomes humourous just how unlikable he is. Kinda like first season Schmidt.

The pacing is way too fucking fast, things that should have taken most of the season have already happened within the first two episodes.

The meta humour is obnoxious at best, with the only decent gag thus far being Shaggy's stance on drugs.

Is it the worst show I've ever seen? Absolutely not, nowhere close. The hate for it is way overblown.
But it's bad. And, unfortunately, it's not a good kind of bad where I would recommend someone watch it, it's just a boring bad.

He has no problem with the race-swapping (and actually thinks that the designs of the main characters are good on a technical level), but the fact that the show is just flat-out bad. Velma is basically a blatant self-insert of Mindy Kaling, who despite saying how she idolized Velma doesn't actually bring anything about Velma's character into her performance of her.

Apparently the issue people have is that it's not very good. Perhaps even awful.

mainly because i haven't even watch it lol.

All of you happy with the nudity do remember the show is about under age high school children and the people creating it knew this and still went with the nude scenes.

Well, in their defense, Mindy Kaling does a lot of "talking without saying anything" that gets her the pushback that she does.

Like how she said she won't allow her children to watch The Office because the writing is "problematic" despite her being the LEAD WRITER on 26 episodes.

Episodes such as:

Michael sex-shames Phyliss for wanting to dress as Santa.

Michael has an extremely offensive "disability seminar" because the other employees aren't being sympathetic to him for burning his foot on a Foreman Grill.

They hire strippers for Phyliss' bachelorette party.

They set up a sales incentive program, but end up awarding a saleswoman the award because she's hot.

But on the Velma show, I watched the first two episodes, and for me, it just tries too hard. It seems every line is delivered for the sole purpose to remind people this is an "ADULT" cartoon.

I would consider myself a HUGE Scooby-Doo fan, and this show, so far, has been a huge disappointment for me.

Serious question: did Mindy Kaling have any writing input at all?

Ive been reading conflicting info on that. Regardless, I dont specifically have a problem with her. I think she was good casting on The Office, although Im sure she was there because of the writing connection.

Pretty sure I've seen many characters' butts. Plus, many scenes of excessive drug use and group sex. All with "high school kids".

This narrative needs to end. People in my the left hate it too. Race swapping is a lazy way to create black characters for the sole purpose of virtue signaling points.

To paraphrase the words of a black tik toker I was watching, black people deserve original characters like Static Shock and Kimberly from Street Fighter. No one asked for black shaggy, the guy eats dog food. Also original characters feel more like real people who can be related to.

I wasn't okay with it when characters were white washed, now why are people okay with black/brown washing? This is what we call consistency, otherwise it's hypocritical.

There's nothing wrong with wanting visually accurate portrayals of characters, just look at The Last of Us show people are bugged because Ellie doesn't look like Ellie from the video game.

Another recent example people were bothered because Tom Holland looks nothing like Nathan Drake.

It doesn't have to just be race, people like characters to look like their character. Trying to pin it on racism is just a scapegoat for making shitty adaptations.
