He says getting bi-weekly makes people think they make more money than that actually do and he may be right in that say you gross $1700 every two weeks, that looks good but break it down weekly and you're making $850 before taxes.

You can agrue the same with weekly pay, knowing pay is a only ever a week out you might be more willing to spend money, while biweekly, you have to keep an eye on your bank balance and make sure youre good for two weeks

If he did the math to figure it out, then why doesn't he just advocate for financial literacy? Better to teach others how to navigate that world than to try and demand something of an entire system that's been doing what it's been doing forever. Always make more progress by helping out someone else, that's what matters.

The guys a dummy BUT

i will say that I really liked in college that I would get all my money (from scholarships, grants, whatever) for the semester given to me a week before classes started, and then I had to make sure that lasted until the start of the next semester. Having a set amount of money in August and knowing thats all I would have until January made me more careful about my spending habits for sure. Now that my bank account grows every two weeks I definitely find myself spending more on luxuries because Im only ever a few days away from payday.

With how budgeting works, I would rather we switched to monthly paychecks than weekly. But really, you shouldn't even care when you get payed and should pay more attention to how much money is in your bank account, what upcoming expenses you have, and then determining what you can do with it.

It sucks for some people, I guess... I'm fine with bi-weekly, though. I'm also fine with weekly. I got paid weekly once upon a time, as well... That said, I think I like bi-weekly a little more... Weekly can be good by getting money right when I need it. But bi-weekly helps me out, as well...

But I agree with some that monthly sucks... Don't know if I could do that...

I remember when I got paid weekly before I had direct deposit... I was going to the bank all the time, it felt like... Especially when I had a second job that I felt like I was at most of the time...

I can kind of see the point, and there's a part of me that might prefer weekly or monthly cheques (either would line up better with most of my recurring expenses), but weekly cheques would double the workload for anyone in payroll and waiting a whole month for money is a terribly long time for many people, so I'm fine with biweekly as a happy medium and having to resort to the very complicated mathematics of dividing or multiplying that number by 2.

Weekly direct deposit, babaaaaay.

The less you get paid per month, the easier the employers have it, really. A little less work for them.

Feels rather arbitrary imo.

Maybe you're outside of the US. Monthly is the least common schedule of payment in the US. With Biweekly being #1 and Weekly being #2 and Semi-monthly being #3.

Weekly and Biweekly are good for hourly employees. Semiweekly is for people who make a salary and it's just 2 checks a month.

I've never heard of a place that pays monthly which isn't shocking given that it is only used 10% of the time in the US.

Biweekly is every two weeks it's hourly employees, semi-monthly is salaried employees and their checks are given twice a month.

Bi-weekly = 14 days, 2 weeks=28 days = twice a month.
Just pointing out that bi-weekly and bi-monthly are actually the same thing.

Theyre different. With bi-weekly, you get 26 checks a year. You get it every two weeks, with 52 weeks. So, 26 checks. With semi-monthly, its 24. 12 months, and twice a month When I was in the Air Force, it was semi-monthly, so 1st and 15th. Right now, Im getting bi-weekly, so every two weeks They are similar, but still have some differences

No it isn't the same thing. Biweekly is every two weeks which as others has pointed out can sometimes mean 3 pay checks in a month. Semimonthly is two set days each month.

I suspect semi-monthly is a thing only because of how common biweekly pay is.

Another reason I like bi-weekly pay is how my work days are. For example, this week Monday was a day of, I had a doctor's appointment on Tuesday and Wednesday, and I didn't want to go in today. If I was on a weekly schedule, I would have to use a day off to make up for today's hours to get paid. But since I'm bii-weekly, I can just make up the hours tomorrow and one of the days next week... It's not the same for everyone, though... But it works the best for me...

My employer pays semimonthly rather than biweekly. 24 pay periods per year instead of 26. Not really much of a difference in terms of getting the money, but it makes for really weird timekeeping.

Pay periods always begin on the 1st and 16th, regardless of what day of the week it is. This also means each one can range from 9 work days to 12, so the checks can be different amounts each time.

The current pay period is 12 days, so my next check will be a big one, but the second half of February is only going to be 9 days, so it'll be a lot smaller. While the taxes fluctuate with the size of the check, there are a lot of expenses (health insurance, dental, vision, HSA, etc) that are a fixed amount and they hit a lot harder when you get a smaller check.

If you're on a salary (and most people who get paid monthly are), it doesn't really matter when you get your paycheck. Barring overtime, it's always the same amount.

I get paid hourly, my hours aren't fixed, and a lot of my hours need to "be approved". Sometimes they slip through the cracks. I also bookkeep my hours in case this happens. If I had to go through a month of work to find out where I'm missing hours, I would lose my mind lol

The reason for bi weekly pay is to make payroll easier and more standard by having clearly set payroll days of the 1st and 15th of every month.

if this clown doesnt want two paychecks a month maybe let him go find an employer who only pays once a month or maybe he should be glad he has a job and stfu

I think you mean semi-monthly. Semi-monthly and 1st and 15th. Bi m-weekly is just every 2 weeks. Anyway, I think the guy was looking to get paid daily or weekly rather than once a month, IIRC

It depends on the state and the company. In California they have a very limited amount of time to get you your final paycheck. Both places I worked at gave them to me on my way out the door. The first place did so like 4 hours before the end of the day. So I left.
