It seems like that every time around, but there are still people that haven't seen a PS5 in real life.

I've never seen either a PS5 or Xbox whatever in person, and I can't confidently say that I know anyone who owns one.

I can say that I know more people with a Switch than I think I could ever say I knew with any other system, so if you feel that way I think the main issue might be that you're interpreting the current generation too narrowly.

I think the fact that developers haven't abandoned the last gen consoles yet is a good indicator that adoption is still fairly low. My wife and I both have a Series X but I've yet to see a PS5.

I wouldn't say so. I have a PS5, and I know a couple of other people that do as well. If there were ever a "least accessed" generation of consoles, it would be all of the new pop up systems that came out between the SNES and PS1. NeoGeo, SegaCD, 3DO, ect. I can't recall for sure, but I think the Jaguar might have been on the tail end of that as well. I can't say I knew anyone that owned any of them. I would say TurboGrafix-16 could be one as well if you consider the gap between the NES and SNES to be a console generation. I actually got to play one of them though. It was a pretty sick console. Ahead of its time. The games were tiny. Only about the size of a few stacked up credit cards.

im done w PlayStation. It stopped reading blu ray discs that xbone reads.

go Microsoft or better yet pc. Within the next two gens consoles are going to price themselves out of the system anyway.

You see Switches everywhere due to the portability of it

Seen one PS5, haven't seen a XBOX Series S/X or whatever letter they are using (outside of Retail/Stores)...but the funny thing is, even if I did see one, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference from any other XBOX console outside the original one.

Plus with Mobile Gaming, PC/Streaming Services like GamePass/PSPlus, there is really no need for Consoles anymore. That and Physical/Optical Disc/Cartridges are pretty much on the way out.

I was in this boat until Christmas, when one of my friends bought the new Xbox for his son. Mainly because his son was pestering him to get it so he could play Minecraft with his friends.

I'd probably own a PS5 by this point if not for the fact that a) various shortages have made them a bitch to get, and b) every PS game worth owning has been getting dual release on the PS4 anyway.

Until SteamMachine or something similar actually succeeds, this is unlikely.

Like it or not, PC gaming is still relatively limited to specific demographics. Especially with a majority of people leaving PCs behind entirely for phones for general Internet usage. Consoles fill a gaming niche that mobile doesn't (hence Nintendo's experiments with the Switch).

We're honestly far more likely to see a future where most gaming is phone-based and streaming to your TV than we are a future where consoles die but PCs thrive.

Chip shortage+bad global economy+no incentive to buy with virtually zero exclusives

The ps5 at this point is a fancy ps4. I think Xbox isn't doing themselves any favors with how they name consoles. Regular people don't know the difference between a new console and an upgraded existing one

Even more than that, I just know of more people with Switches. Part of that may just be that I know a lot of the sort of people who jumped on the Animal Crossing bandwagon at the start of the pandemic (that game really couldn't have come out at a better time), but even beyond that it seems to be more dominant among my circles of friends than any other system I can think of.

You'd think the WiiU's and 3DS's struggles would have taught them a lesson in that regard, but here we are.

I mean consoles are more affordable and accessible. Also I don't have to wait months for a possible chance a PS5 exclusive might come to PC. Also I still like physical media. I have no issue with PC gaming but consoles first for me.

I've had a PS5 for about a year and a half. Sometimes I'll go weeks where I play it every day, sometimes I'll go months where I never touch it. Overall I do like it and glad I got it, just wish there were more games for it I want. Thankfully FFXVI and FF7R2 are coming soon.

I know tons of Switch owners, but only a relatively small amount of ps5 & xbox whatever owners. But you have a chip shortage and, honestly, it's a weak generation so far.

I do home installs and have seen a good number of ps5s. Know a couple of friends with one. A family member has an Xbox Series X, and I see folks with Series S every so often. But definitely see a lot more Switches and PCs. The PS5 shortage is over, at least where I'm at..
