From what I understand the new mode completely powers off the console most of the time and shifts to sleep mode to download updates during quiet periods overnight and turning back off when done.

That take was so unbelievably dog shit that even trolls on Gamefaqs wouldnt even bother to post it. Everyone would just ignore it and the post would get deleted for blatant trolling. Yet Fox really out here saying shit like this on national TV

This is just another option for how the console runs, it is not being forced on anyone.

idk if it's been addressed in the thread or not, but xbox always had power saving mode. at launch, it disabled quick resume, which sucked, but they made it compatible with QR a while ago. what they've done is turn it on by default via system update. which is good.

and no, xbox hasn't faced any backlash for this, besides some laugh reacts on facebook

They've essentially already had it, yeah, though the new thing is slightly different: the new "shutdown" mode instead of "sleep" mode draws less power but takes a little longer to start back up (I assume no more than a couple seconds). No idea if it affects quick resume.

Quick Resume can actually still work even if the Xbox is unplugged but it depends on the game. I think it's more stable and more supported overall but can't say for sure.

Pretty sure the energy saver setting has been around since about 2013. It's got 2 god damn settings, instant on/sleep and energy saver.

They changed the names of them a few months ago, but they do the same thing as always. Idle and sip electricity, but has glitchiness that usually needs a restart anyways. Or 'just turn the sucker off' when not being used.

If they're seriously moaning about the energy saver/shut down setting, then that's literally like complaining about turning the TV or faucet off for 7+ hours when no one is using it. I don't mind some of the stuff from Fox, but this is literally just scraping for it.
