I see so many videos from Ukrainian side of how well theyre doing, but Russia seems to just keep coming. Is Russia actually getting hurt by economic blockades and Ukrainians? Will Russia surrender?

Russia is attempting the Zapp Brannigan strategy.

Well a year in, they've lost 100,000 men, 1/3rd of their combat vehicles, have tanked their own economy and have achieved 0 of their military objectives.

They had to ban travel out of the country for adult males because young men were fleeing.

Russia has definitely firmed up its line since making the (strategically sound) decision to abandon Kherson, thanks in part to its mobilization efforts, but has failed to make much progress, even in the area around Bahkmut, where it has been on the offensive for a long while. Of course, the best the Russians can hope for is a long, grinding war that they might eventually win, but Ukraine is beginning to receive and train on Western tanks (Challengers from the UK, Leopard IIs from Germany, and Abrams from the US) which could help it tip the scales, and long-term Russia is going to have a harder time procuring materials as long as NATO powers are willing to arm Ukraine (it doesn't seem as though enthusiasm is waning - quite the contrary).

Of course, I suspect that things would get ugly if Ukraine ever managed to retake and control significant parts of Luhansk, Donetsk, and/or Crimea...

I am in favour of the USA, NATO, and other allies getting boots into Ukraine and pushing Russia all the way back to Moscow.

But that isnt happening and we are just slowly inching into what I presume later historians will call World War III.

They are on the offensive in parts of Ukraine. They have taken back territory

Russia regrouped and is now holding ground.

I expect a big push from Russia to mark the one-year anniversary of this war all through to spring.

The atrocities are just getting started.

Im getting more and more nervous that things are escalating too much and this is going to become a bigger issue in the coming months.

This whole arming for a spring offensive just seems like more fuel on the fire. I dont see Russia walking away without gaining something and fear what they will do as they get more desperate.

There are now 12 countries that are going to provide tanks. Seems like the stakes are just being raised.

Because that would be idiotic

They would gain nothing, escalate everything and lose a lot of support.

The reason almost the entire world is backing Ukraine is because they were invaded and just want their land back. If they flat out invade Russia, things get bleak.

Plus Ukraine doesn't really have the strength to do that. They're still on the defensive in several places and have annexed land in Ukraine they want to liberate

Bscause Russia still holds a good 20% of their land so they would have to take obscene losses to make it there and just be encircled...also invading Russia in winter is fucking stupid.

Also NATO would stop supplying equipment if they started advancing into Russia itself.

It would lose them the war fast. Possibly get them nuked.

If you just mean retaking territory Russia took...they kinda were doing that but its winter now and Putin threw a ton of conscripted meatshields into the fray so major offensives are difficult to sustain right now.

It's unlikely that Putin will deploy nuclear weapons. If he ever makes that call some are trusting that a subordinate will attempt a coup or assassination. There is a chance though.. and if Europe was entirely destroyed / unlivable it isn't necessarily an "L" for Russia. It would allow Russia / China / Iran / North Korea / others to exterminate the rest of the planet, fight over the scraps, and do whatever they want with humanity's future.

should just skip the foreplay and have NATO countries deploy troops into ukraine, push russia out to prevent the immediate civilian suffering and deal with the consequences afterwards

I like the theory that Russia just systematically wars to cull its population of undesirables

If they get something out of it win win
