Current Events > r/Atheism on Reddit is just another big echo chamber like ResetERA.

Where to begin? This is going to be a long one.

I post in r/Atheism under Reddit, & all I did was agree with a moderator about homosexuality not being a sin in a reply to the pope who had mentioned that. Then I posted an article from The Daily Beast titled: The Word Homosexual Is in the Bible by Mistake: The Explosive Documentary That Is Under Attack. Then a few minutes later, I found myself permabanned from posting from there for "Posting revisionist propaganda." WTF?

What's worse is that they make appealing a ban process harder than it should be. They want you to go through this shit:

"If you are genuinely interested in participating in this subreddit, please read our subreddit rules. Then, please read the FAQ. Then, please read the advice for new posters.

After you have read all three of those documents in their entirety, please read the guide to constructing an appeal and follow the instructions therein."

I've read through all of the links that they've sent me, then issued an apology for posting the link. They then sent me this:

"If you read the rules and the FAQ, you missed something important.

The key to getting unbanned is in the links we sent you. They're fairly long documents - please set aside the 20-30 minutes it will take to read them in their entirety before messaging us again. This step is not optional.

After you have finished reading those documents, please read the guide to constructing an appeal and follow the instructions therein. Thank you."

Then again:

"We require all appeals to follow a specific format described in the documents you were instructed to read. Appeals which do not follow this format cannot be accepted.

If you want you appeal to be considered, please read those documents in their entirety before you begin composing your appeal."

And finally:

"If you are genuinely interested in participating in this subreddit, please read our subreddit rules. Then, please read the FAQ.

Then, please read the advice for new posters.
After you have read all three of those documents in their entirety, please read the guide to constructing an appeal and follow the instructions therein.

Please read these documents very carefully before messaging us again. Only your very next message will be accepted as an appeal."

I'm like, what the hell do you want me to do, beg like a damn dog? What the hell do you want me to say? I've never conducted an appeal ban process before, especially one that's so damn ridiculous.

I personally find it ridiculous that being permabanned from posting from that subreddit all for trying to agree with someone on what they wrote, & I've been a big contributor to that subreddit. It reminds me of another echo chamber being ResetERA that I used to post in & have been permabanned from.

I now need to find a real Atheist forum & community in which the moderators & administrators are more forgiving, merciful, & won't be like either r/Atheism & ResetERA in which they automatically ban you for saying or posting one wrong thing that they don't like. Pathetic.

you could take out "r/Atheism on" from your topic title and nothing would change lol

Don't stress about the big subreddits. Very few are competently managed and worth participating in. (AskHistorians is one and uh...idk what else lol)

Stick to the smaller niche and hobby subs.

In this moment, I am euphoric. Not because of any phony god's blessings. But because, I am enlightened by my intelligence.

All subreddits, by their very nature, are echochambers.

I still don't know what is the point of a forum for atheists. It would only need one stickied post: Is there a God? Nope. Anything more and they put themselves at risk of adopting the cultish mindset that they so vehemently detest.

Yeah, some mods just don't know how to differentiate posts that are in good faith or not. Don't sweat it. I got banned from a fighting game subreddit because I said anime arena fighters barely qualify as a fighting game and then got a ban for spreading lies even though I literally said it was my opinion. You're probably better off from that place anyways.

There are topics that you can discuss with other atheists knowing you won't be getting answers that have anything to do with god or religion in it. But yeah a lot of the time it just becomes an echo chamber, but that's the road most subreddits go into.
