Which One?

As you gotten older? I mean, as a young kid in the NES/SMS days, I couldn't really beat any games (I often had to use guides and walkthoughs) but as I got into my late Teens, I could beat most Games w/o any Guides or (no pun intended) FAQs. Now as I enter my mid 40s, I dunno, I'm starting to think I might have peaked in my early 30s because now I find myself struggling a bit to beat Current Gen games (like RE7 atm). I mean, I still manage to beat them, but maybe because I'm doing alot of Adulting nowadays and I can't focus on them like I did when I was living in my Grandmother's Backroom.

So what about you all?

Worse in most genres.
Partially because of a lack of patience coupled with a lack of time

Worse, if I take a break from a game nowadays and try to get back into it, I'm a mess trying to remember the controls. Back in the day the transition was seamless

I got worse with time mostly because I had less time to play. By the time I started playing video games on the NES, school was getting busy. With less time, I got worse. When I went to college, I almost never played video games.

About the same, I'd say. I can still play action games just fine, like doing a lot of parries in Elden Ring, though arthritis in the hands does make it annoying to play them sometimes.

I mostly stick with RPG's, though, like SRPG's, or CRPG's and games (like Rimworld) where it's basically realtime with pause.

I think better, but maybe the same. Definitely not getting worse yet (40y/o)

The FPS I was best at was Killzone 2 and 3 which was 10+ years ago, but I haven't invested in an FPS since then really. I feel like I am even better at platformers and action RPGs then I have ever been, just having more games under my belt.

There's been a little give and take. I've improved in terms of figuring things out on my own by a tidy sum, but my ability to react to things has diminished by a fraction of a second. And sadly I don't know how much of the latter is me overthinking every little thing that happens or dealing with the NA server latency in FFXIV. <_<

Yea that's sounds like me a bit...esp when playing Fighting Games, I seem to lose my Reaction skills while playing online at times.

Better in some ways, worse in others. My reaction time is still good enough to play action games and the like, and my puzzle solving is at or better than it was when I was a kid so I can get through adventure games as well. For a lot of story heavy games though, I don't have the patience anymore and usually try to avoid them while I loved playing them when I was younger.

A bit worse. My hand-eye button mashing has declined 10% or so. Not a huge deal, but my 13-yr-old can beat me in peak reflex games that I would have smashed people in previously.

Worse at pretty much everything. Lower reaction times, less patience, less time to devote to the game. I'm probably better at strategy now given the same time frame, but when I was younger I could theorycraft games and work out the math and timing to create the best strategy. I don't have the time or resources to do that anymore, but I have more experience with general tactics and strategies that I am probably better at improvising.

I was really bad at games as a kid.

I'm sure I'm not as good as FPS games now but that's mostly an issue of practice. If I got really into one I'm sure I'd do okay.

Typically young teens are better at video games due to faster reaction time and better hand eye coordination, now this doesn't manifest in all video games but it sure does in many of them.

Experience and wisdom is what the older gamer has but those are typically not as useful. Sure if you spend your time playing mostly strategy turn based games the older gamer might have the advantage in that case. Some might not realize this fact though as they rarely play against younger people that might have that advantage.

In AoE2 it's just accepted that newer players cannot be good at the game. There are no rising stars. The best players have been playing the longest because it's just a complex game with so many factors you can only learn from experience.

At least these days I can mostly complete games now. When I was a kid I often struggled on the first few levels.

Better.
I played a bunch as a kid, but rarely got far. That barely improved as a teenager, i just found more of what i enjoyed playing.
As an adult, i actually beat games and have patience and what not. Every now and again, I find myself jumping around games, but I still have more patience.
I used to fly through games through emulators as a kid and teen.
