Likely a lot of customers dropping to the $10 plan, because a second screen is useless if grandma can't watch from her apartment, or Billy can't watch from his college dorm.

If you're logging in on your first screen at least once a month, how does anything in that scenario change from how it works now? I must be missing some details around the specifics.

If you only bother to watch netflix on your phone when you're not at home, it's entire plausible it'll end up "untrusted" between instances of watching on your phone.
Then, it's some sort of annoying pseudo-2FA to get the device authorized for a week.

Isnt the $10 plan SD only

thats the other Netflix scam, all the other providers have 5.1 and 4K content by default but Netflix gates it behind their premium plan

The DVD-by-mail service gates blurays behind an upcharge, as well.

Because it's designed to stop people from sharing across multiple households. Let's say "John" is the account holder and is sharing with Tom, who lives in a different house. Tom must physically bring his devices to John's house and connect to Netflix via that network, or he will be blocked from using that Netflix account.

Easy enough if they only use mobile devices and live nearby. But it's a hassle and Netflix is trying to force people to pay for their own account. But the reality is that most people that are sharing, will simply stop using Netflix instead. And it will also cause some people to downgrade, or cancel, their account if they can't share with family/friends.

I think a lot of Netflix's sharing "issues" arise from tying higher definition to buying more screens. If they always had a 1 screen for 4K option this wouldn't be as big of an issue.

Are you all not home once every 30 days? Seems easy to avoid getting locked out.

Gorsh, I just went on vacation on day 29 of my Netflix period cycle. I didn't keep track because, you know, I *PAY* Netflix. I'm not their employee, where they get to demand that I perform work on their behalf.

Oh no, I just got back two weeks later and boom, I am locked out.

Not to mention, this eliminates using a VPN while overseas to still watch your US Netflix programs. So it's a big FU to US service personnel stationed overseas. Not to mention all the US ex-pats... or any foreigner who'd like to open an account with Netflix (US) to watch US Netflix programs.

This is what happens when you're a publically traded company. You always have to show growth or else you piss off your shareholders. Subscriber based model only works up to a certain point, wants you reach that ceiling you have to show your shareholder how else you're going to get more money... by bleeding out more money from your subscribers of course. All this will do is get more people back on the seas.
They're never hitting the peaks they did during the pandemic again. So gimmicks like this are pretty much all they have left.

Sad but this is probabaly the inevitable fate of most software companys sooner or later. and stupid moves like zuckerburgs aggressive push towards VR makes sense.

Geez.

On 1 March 2023, your 30 day Netflix cycle begins. You go on a vacation on 29 March and come back on 13 April. Now you are locked out because you didn't enter your password 30 days after the start of the cycle (31 March). Because you were on vacation.

Get it?

The best situation I can see from this is a bunch of people saying fuck you Netflix and staying logged in at home while giving there passwords to as many as people as possible. While on the other hand, tons of people get over charged or have their subscription canceled because they either couldn't go home or just forgot to for a month.

Either way, piracy is probably gonna start being the norm again.

Piracy is just gonna impact the nerd shows. Which people already complain about getting cancelled because not enough people watch them.

People aren't gonna start torrenting Love is Blind, Bridgerton or Virgin River because of this.

Even Cocomelon is one of the most streamed Netflix shows even though it's available for free on YouTube with more content and more regularly updated.

People are just really underestimating how ingrained Netflix is for people. Comments on the internet complaining are still overall a bubble.

It doesn't matter if you stay logged in at home on YOUR device. The people you gave your password to would have to log onto Netflix at your house with THEIR device once every 31 days or they get locked out.

You seem to be intentionally misunderstanding what they are doing here. If you were logged in at least once from your home location you are good for another month. It's not tied to a billing cycle or log-in cycle. You're not forced to re-sign in every month. In the scenario you posted, nothing at all would change from how it is now.

You're underestimating how fucking huge of an impact good streaming service had on piracy. People will pay as long as its convinient and for a while it was, piracy was majorly down. As greed grew, piracy grew and this may be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

As I said even if piracy went up it's just gonna impact the nerd shows at most.

When piracy was at its peak The Big Bang Theory was raking in millions on broadcast television right? All the while the internet kept asking "who is watching this?!"

Keep hoping away though. Just like Dexit was gonna be the straw that broke the camels back and just like how Call of Duty was gonna run out of steam when Infinite Warfare got a lot of dislikes on YouTube. Or like how no one cares about Avatar. It's just the same ol' story when it comes to internet commenters thinking that they represent the common voice.

It would be completely different now because a lot of people do not have cable anymore due to services like Netflix and Hulu. People would watch those shows on their paid cable channels. Now they would pirate a show like that instead.

Does anyone know how they are handling changing your home network, and how often that's allowed? It has to be possible for when people move or are gone for several months.

Anyway, I bet a lot of people who are currently sharing passwords will just accept that they are paying for Netflix now which will offset some of the canceled subs.
