My friend worked in sales for a company for 2 years that was recently sold to a corporate company because they saw how great the sales were for the product the company were selling and wanted to buy the competition. The agreement from the former boss was all the staff would have jobs after the acquisition. New company has been mostly silent dragging their feet since last summer about keeping everyone and giving them information about benefits until after the sale was finalized. Boss from the old company caused a ruckus from getting the cold shoulder so much that they finally came out and told the former boss they had no intention on hiring anyone and would only give them a chance to interview for whatever positions they apply for on their website. They said they would pay everyone a 2 month severance package and pay out their vacation too. They'll know if they're all being fired by August at the earliest or December at the latest.

My friend was recommended to apply and interview for a corporate position before anyone else from one of the new managers, but no guarantee they'll get the job since they're competing with whoever else applies also. I personally don't understand why a company wouldn't want to keep a sales team that sold a product so well they wanted to buy the company.
