After getting laid off in 2019 I got stuck living with my mom and my stepdad, and I haven't been able to get a job that pays well enough to keep up with the insane rent around here. My mom died in 2021 and now I'm just stuck with my stepfather, who immediately imploded, got into drugs, lost his job and drivers license and now just sits in the living room watching tv while me and my brother pay the bills and everything else.

Guy cant even feed himself. I want to stop even spending money on him entirely, but starving him seems cruel. But at the same time I realize he's just acting pathetic so that I'll continue to help him.

It's a pretty shitty situation I felt like I needed to vent about i guess

Cut him off. Let him drown. He'll learn to paddle if he has any worth left.

My maid will hear about this.

I thought I was in this same situation with my significant other.
She has started helping me with chores and honestly things are much better. It's different because we're in love but If it was a step parent... I suggest tactfully try to help him help himself. But if all else fails, don't let them stay too long because after a certain amount of time they are entitled to reside with you, at least that's the law where I live. And you can't just kick them out on the street.

I could be anybody, even you. Or them.

That might ultimately be all I can do. I've been way too leniant because I've been afraid if I don't keep him somewhat placated he's going to go out and try to do stupid stuff that it going to cause me more trouble in the long run, but maybe it would be worth just cutting the cord and seeing what happens

My mom died without a will so unfortunately this house passed into a three way ownership with him, my brother and I, so kicking him out isn't an option unfortunately. Leaving would come down to him doing it voluntarily or me finally finding an affordable place to rent.

Give him an ultimatum. He either finds work and contributes by a certain date or he finds another place to live.
